sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This week started of decently and then slowly got worse as my boyfriend had to go back to work and had to work weird times again. I know these are weird times, but I really wish they would give him a consistent schedule. I think the restaurants and cafe’s are supposed to open again on 1 June here and some other places like hairdressers are open already, we’ll see what happens next with the virus and how that goes. I also had a bad headache late this week, which make work challenging, but I couldn’t afford to take time off so I has to work with the headache.

Work wise it was a pretty busy week and I tried to fit in some extra hours of assistant work so I could get some more work done as there was plenty to do this week. I also have an ongoing blog tour, worked on a few things for future tours and sent out a newsletter to my author newsletter list.

My mom’s mother day present arrived on Monday, so luckily it wasn’t too late. Later in the week we talked with each other through Skype as well.

I made some carrot cake this week when I had a sudden craving for carrot cake. I made another peach crumble earlier in the wee. And I also made onion pie for dinner later in the week and it was nice to spend some time cooking and baking.

What did I read this week?

Show, Don't TellFacing WestBonds of BrassPerilous HuntMy Superstar Romance

I had a great reading week. Finishing 5 different books, most of which were 4 stars. I finished my non-fiction read Show, Don’t Tell, which was a great read that explains the whole show don’t tell advice and when to show and tell and how to implement it with plenty of tips and examples. Facing West was a steamy MM romance read. I enjoyed it for the most part, but also had a bunch of things that didn’t quite work for me, anything from small things to the main plot lines and romance set up to the fact that it was too heavy on the sex and not enough sweeter scenes. Bonds of Brass was an awesome scifi book with a great romance, it had plenty of action, I liked the romance and the narrator was awesome too. Perilous Hunt is the seventh book in this series. It was a solid read and I liked how the plot lines progressed in this book. My Superstar Romance is a sweet new adult romance book with a theme of dance and music. I liked the romance in this one, the conflict didn’t really work for me, but I liked how both characters grew in their time apart and became better characters for it. I like the glimpse we got of the next main character and look forward to book 2.

  1. Sorry you had a dreary end of the week with your boyfriend on odd hours and your headache interfering, but I’m glad your mother’s day gift arrived and you could Skype with your mom. Carrot cake does sound good. I like it spicy with cream cheese frosting. 🙂
Nice job finishing all those books this week and that most were wonderful reads/listens. Lucky you getting Bonds of Brass in audio. 🙂 Looks like a good haul of books you’ll really enjoy.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • It sure was a week with good and bad things. The headache and my boyfriend’s odd work hours made for a dreary end indeed. I am glad my mom’s present arrived and we could skype. I made this carrot cake without frosting, it did have some cinnamon.

I am glad I saw Bonds of Brass on your blog as it was a great read. After that ending I am really curious how book 2 will be.

  2. Yay for such a good reading week!! I’m sorry the rest wasn’t quite as good. I agree, it would be nice if your bf’s work scheduled more consistent hours.

I hope you don’t have a headache again this week – it’s so hard to get work done with a headache. Hoping for a great week!

    • It really was a great reading week at least. I think next week he has more normal hours again, so that will be a nice change.

I hate headaches, they make it so difficult to get anything done.

  3. Sorry your week was dreary at the end. That’s great your mother’s day gift arrived. Mine was a few days past, but came that same week. Thankfully! It looks like you had a nice week in reading. I like your book haul too. Demons in the Bedroom and Stolen Flyght look like good books. Can’t wait to see what you think on them.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • I am glad it arrived only one day late, it was supposed to come early, but was delayed. I am now reading Demons in the Bedroom and it’s great. I hope to get Stolen Flyght soon as I love that series and am curious to see how it ends.

    • It wasn’t a good combination to have the headache and my boyfriend’s weird work hours. I hope this week is better.

  4. I’m sorry to hear your week last week was rough. I hate working with a headache! I know that must have sucked for you. <3 My week was okay. I can't even remember what I did now. I'd have to go back and read my OWN Sunday Update to know! Lol.

    • It’s hard working with a headache, sadly the headache had bad timing and I had to keep working. I am glad to hear your week was okay :).

  5. You have my profound sympathy! I battled with bad headaches and migraines throughout most of my adult life – and I recall the misery of struggling through looking after babies, small children and working with that dreary ache behind my eyes… I hope you have a kinder week, Lola…

    • I have had regular headaches through most of my adult life so far as well. It can be really hard to deal with them. I am already happy I have them less frequently now at least. Sorry to hear you also deal with bad headaches and migraines.
