sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Itโ€™s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was not my week. It started off on the wrong foot and while it got better, it still didn’t get all smoothly. It was just one of those weeks were multiple things went wrong and just piled up. Luckily I did got a bunch of work done nonetheless. I put a new sign-up post live for a bookstagram blitz (there are even some physical review copies available), some other Lola’s Blog Tours work and I did some hours of assistant work.

On Monday I woke up with an migraine with aura, those are never fun and I felt off and tired most of the day. I tried doing things like normal, but underestimated how crap I felt and went back to bed for a nap and took it slow the rest of the day. Tuesday I felt a lot better luckily, but still struggled to focus a bit and that’s been a bit of the theme for the rest of the week. It’s hard to motivate myself and focus.

Then on Wednesday one of the parakeets we’re pet sitting for almost landed in a pot of boiling curry. We wanted to put her back in the cage as we were going to have dinner, but she didn’t want to and then flew into the kitchen. We didn’t know she knew were the kitchen was and could fly there, so we had to chase her and prevent her from landing in dinner. One of the parakeets can fly well, the other one can hardly fly yet, but he can sing sort of and likes to (try) sing along when I have music on.

And then when I was trying to leave a review for a book I finished, I found out Amazon blocked me from reviewing. Ugh I was afraid this might happen at some point. I already e-mailed them, so I really hope they will reinstate my review privileges as I know how much Amazon reviews mean to authors and I want to be able to review there.

Okay now for some more positive things that happened this week. I’ve been playing this calming game called Abzu, which is great. You are a diver and explore these underwater levels and see the different fishes and animals. It’s really fun, relaxing and it’s just a beautiful game. I also won a giveaway for 3 months Audible, which is awesome so I can get some of the books that aren’t on Storytel. I have my eye on a cozy mystery book narrated by Nicole Poole that isn’t on Storytel.

We’ve been watching some movies and series again lately. We just started watching Star Trek The Next Generation and watched the Venom movie last week and Solo before that.

I’ve been cleaning out some of my Facebook again. This time I unfollowed some groups that took too much of my feed space up and had lots of posts I wans’t interested in. And it’s amazing how now I am seeing posts from pages and groups that I rarely saw before. Definitely a good move.

And the weather has been weird around here lately. Last week it felt like spring, but this week felt like autumn. We’ve had lower temperatures again, hard winds and rain.

And now it’s time for some pictures
Pita-Breads-with-veggies.
These are the pita breads with veggies I mentioned last week. I bought them again this week, one of them is with red bell pepper and the other with spinach.

Quito
And this is Quito the cat we’re pet sitting. He’s a great cat and fun to have around.

What did I read this week?

Newsletter NinjaSilent Bud Deadly

I finally finished the non-fiction book Newsletter Ninja, it was such a great and informative read. Definitely would recommend it. And I finished Silent Bud Deadly, which was really good with a great mystery.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Review: Lonely Shore by Jenn Burke and Kelly Jensen
Review: The Crystal Queen by Lidiya Foxglove

– Review: Due East, Beasts and Campfire Feasts by Erin Johnson

Ever StrangeMy Fair Captain

Tell me something fun that happened to you this week? Any recommendations for fun sci-fi/ fantasy movies?

  1. OMG Lola this was the week from hell! But sorry you made me laugh imagining the parakeet landing in curry LOL What was certainly not fun was your migraine (I have some twoce a year but my daughter is a regular) and being blocked from Amazon for reviewing! How can this happen and can you get un-blocked? Let’s hope next week will be way better!

    • I could laugh about the parakeet incident as well afterwards, so thought it would be a fun story to include here.

I only have these migraines a few times a year luckily. Sorry to hear you daughter has them regularly.

I got un-blocked this week on Amazon and can review again luckily. I e-mailed them and that seem to have helped.

  2. Urg. This one definitely sounds like a week you won’t want to remember! The poor parakeet – how horrible – he must have felt so frightened and not nice for you, either – especially as you are looking after him… So sorry to hear about your migraine – it really knocks the stuffing out of you, doesn’t it? I hope this coming week is a MUCH better one! I love the look of the pitta bread – thank you for sharing:)

    • I the parakeet had quite the shock, but she seems to be doing well now. I always forget how badly the migraines knock the stuffing out of me, luckily I don’t have them too often. The pitta breads are really good.

  3. OH My you had a heck of a week. That kitty is super cute and so fluffy! I need to check out the game, I need relaxing games to play, I have been playing Minecraft and that can make you jumpy. lol
I had a sinus headache this week and pretty much spent the weekend doing a lot of nothing because I think I needed a refresh. I just feel so worn out. I am glad you are feeling better.

I hope this week is amazing for you, Lola! Happy Reading!

    • Quito really is an adorable cat and I love having him around. I definitely recommend Abzu, it’s such a fun and relaxing game.

Sometimes a refresh and not doing anything is just what you need. I also feel worn out lately and could use a day off.

    • Luckily I don’t get the migraines too often, but they really are tiring. We enjoyed venom, I especially liked the banter between the main character and venom

  4. So you’re pet sitting parakeets and a cat? Do they get along ok? That pita bread looks good. I’ve been trying some new things and will probably make a couple of blog posts about it. I get aura migraines with no pain but the weird flashing lights are really weird.

I hope Amazon reinstates you. I’ve heard of this happening a lot. I stopped reviewing over there and mostly just post on my blog but I’ve started posting my reviews n Goodreads too.

    • They get along fine, but when the parakeets get out of their cage we lock the cat in another room just in case. The first time I let the parakeets out the cat chased one of them, so I thought it was better to lock the cat away when they are out.

I usually get a weird moon shaped light in my vision with the aura migraines, that part doesn’t hurt, although it is annoying as you can’t do anything. But afterwards I feel drained and get a headache usually.

I’ll keep an eye out for your blog posts about the new things you tried. Those are always fun to read :).

Amazon reinstated me this week luckily, it does seem to be happening a lot.

  5. I almost never Amazon review for those reasons. I review on Goodreads, that’s where I look for reviews, not Amazon.

Sorry about the migraines. My daughter just finished a couple weeks of migraines and is happy to be moving away from them.

The weather has just been so bleh I feel tired and lackadaisical. It’s supposed to be better this week – a bit warmer and sunnier. I hope so. Have a great week with some wonderful books!

    • I also prefer Goodreads to look for reviews, but I know how much Amazon reviews mean to authors so I always try and review there too. They reinstated my review privileges this week luckily.

Sorry to hear your daughter had a couple of weeks of migraine.s I get these aura ones every few months, so not too often luckily.

The weather seems to have been bleh everywhere lately. I could really do with some sun and less wind and rain.

  6. Sorry, but I just laughed over the parakeet nearly divebombing your curry. Oh, you poor soul. Migraines are the worst. I haven’t had one for month’s thank goodness. Hopefully, you’ll get your review privileges back. They were twiddling with things last week and caused a few people to have review troubles.
That calming game sounds neat. I’ll have to look it up.
Ah, your temporary kitty looks cute. The pita breads look delicious and fresh.
    I enjoyed Star Trek TNG.
Hope you enjoy both the books you got and yay for winning the three months of audible. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a better week, Lola!

    • I was hoping the parakeet story would make people laugh, it sure was funny afterwards. I usually only have these aura ones every few months, so that’s not too bad luckily.

I managed to get my Amazon review privileges back this week luckily. Maybe their twiddling caused it.

The temporary kitty is fun to have around, I think I’ll miss him when he goes home. The pita breads are great and I bought them again this week.

I had to get sued to the older graphics of Star Trek TNG, but besides that it’s pretty fun so far.

  7. You and I had similar weeks! I also just did not have a good week. And I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why. Still, Wednesday was my worst day, and I had problems all the way through the weekend. I’m so tired now too because we changed our clocks this weekend. Sigh. That cat is beautiful! And what a crazy time with the birds too! It’s a like a zoo in your house, all of a sudden. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Sorry to hear you also didn’t have a good week. I hope this week is a better one for both of us. Our clock have to be changed in a few weeks, not looking forward to that.

Yes it’s been like a zoo here for the past few weeks, which is probably also why I feel so busy as it takes quite some extra time to take care of them. I like having the cat around tough and the birds can be nice in a good mood.

  8. I’m sorry about your migraine and your overall crappy week :-/ That’s really upsetting about Amazon too. I see it happen to people all the time, and it sucks. I know that on the US site they have that rule that you have to have spent $50 within the past year in order to be able to review, or something like that, and that gets people sometimes. I hope you’re able to get them reinstated.

The parakeet trying to sing sounds so cute lol. And what a pretty cat your petsitting! The game does sound relaxing, and congrats on the giveaway win! Those pita breads look yummy ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you have a better week this week.

    • It really was one of those bad weeks sadly :(. Amazon e-mailed me back and said I hadn’t spend $50, but I won a gift card end last year that I almost all spend, so I told them that wasn’t right. I didn’t hear back, but I can review again now, so yay!

He can be quite cute when signing, but sometimes they make this screeching sound which is just annoying. He had a moment last week where for all of two second he sang along perfectly, that was fun.
