sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty good week. Monday was the last day of the year and it mostly was a normal day for me where I did work and did some end of the year stuff for my company. In the evening I played a game and we watched some fireworks. Then Tuesday was the start of 2019, I set up my new reading tracking document for this year and some new year stuff for my company too.

Besides that it mostly was a normal work week. I got a bunch of hours of assistant work done, sent out a media kit for a tour and did some standard Lola’s Blog Tours work.

I also had the tedious task of removing photo’s on Flickr. When I was new to blogging I thought it was a great idea to host my images somewhere else as I had heard that advice then and I used to host my images on Flickr. Until I found out what a bad idea that actually is, then I switched. Which was years ago, but I still uploaded a lot of my photo’s there just because I liked having them there. Now Flickr is cracking down on free accounts and I had about 700 pictures to check and remove as else they would decide which of my pictures to remove starting with the oldest. And guess what those oldest pictures are the ones that are only hosted there, so I am removing all the pictures that are already on my site and downloading and uploading the ones that aren’t. I had already moved over quite a few pictures, so that saves some time, but still had to double check everything. It’s a long process, but I hope I can most of that done before the deadline. What a pain. At least it was sort of fun to look back through some old pictures.

What did I read this week?

HimPico's CrushThe Vampire Knitting Club

Him was just an okay read, guess it wasn’t quite the read I was in the mood for and I thought it had a bit too much sex and not enough touching/ caring/ sweet moments. Pico’s Crush was awesome, I so enjoy re-reading this series this time in audiobook format, the narration is so well done and I love this series. The Vampire Knitting Club was just okay, fun concept, but it had so many tropes and clichés in the first book and didn’t grab my attention.

Silk and SteelThe Heartstone ThiefLonely ShoreSkip TraceInversion PointPhase Shift

I spend some of my Christmas money on books this week. I has been waiting for the release of Silk and Steel as it sounds like a great read and bought it as soon as it went up on the author’s website. The Hearstone Thief just got a new cover which caught my attention and I decide to buy it. The rest of the books are the later books in the Chaos Station series. I am enjoying book 1 and decide to buy the rest of the series already.

What was your first read of the new year?

  1. I enjoy this time of the year when I get to set up a new reading and challenge schedule for the year. I do an Excel spreadsheet to track my books so I set that up each year and then add in my new challenges. Sounds like you got a good jump on your business work and a good start to your reading with three books done. Yes, isn’t Nicole a fabulous narrator for the CGC series?
Hope your new books including the Chaos Station series turn out great.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • That sounds like a good listen to start the year with. Sorry to hear Hot Listens is having such an issue too. It’s a shame when you trust a site with hosting such things and then they shut down or change their policies. That sounds like a pin to have to recreate all the clips and re upload them.

  2. I remember using Flikr at some point when I first started blogging. I never liked how the images looked so I stopped using it rather early.

I am hoping this year to keep better track of the books I read and I also want to utilize goodreads more with more indepth shelves since I tend to be on it a lot. Just feel like this year I need to be better organized. It’s my organizing year. lol

I hope this week is awesome for you, Lola! Happy Reading! xx

    • That’s good you stopped using it rather early. I stopped using it to host my images years ago, but kept uploading my pictures there, so there were quite some on there.

I like to keep a spreadsheet with information about each book I read. I have tried using Goodreads better with more shelve,s but it never quite seems to stick besides the ones I already use. I hope you do well making this your organizing year.

  3. OMG removing all your pictures must be a long work indeed! Now my first read was an ARC of What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon. It was just fantastic! Have a great Sunday.

    • I got enough removed so they won’t remove them for me at least, it sure was a lot of work. That’s awesome your first read of the year was a good one.

  4. I’ve been reading Girls of Paper and Fire since December 10th….BUT I’m less than 40 pages from the end now. I also have been reading a couple of other books too, so that’s my excuse hahaaa. That cover for Silk & Steel really caught my eye! I might think about picking that one up sometime down the road, but for now, I’m going to focus on the other 500+ books on my TBR…lol.

  5. It sounds like it was a busy week, Lola. I love the look of the recipe Hot Lightning – what would you eat it with, or is it a dish you would eat on its own? My first read of the year was The Lost Gunboat Captain, which is a space opera adventure that I enjoyed. Happy New Year:)

    • We usually eat Hot Lightning just as a dish on it’s own. Although you could probably eat some meat or veggie replacement with it if you want.

That’s great your first read of the year was a good one.

    • I am sad I didn’t enjoy it more, maybe I just wans’t in the right mood for it. There were still enough parts I enjoyed, so I can definitely see why others enjoyed it more. I just finished Chaos Station and it was a great read. I hope the rest of the series is too.

  6. Sounds like a good week. I hate having to redo things but at least it usually improves them and makes for better organization. Yeah, I never liked or did any of those photo sites. I’m sorry you didn’t like The Vampire Knitting Club – it looks so cute. The Pippa DaCosta book looks good too. My first read was an audiobook Summoned to 13th Grave by Charley Davidson. Oddly that’s the same first book as Melanie. Anne – Books of My Heart

    • It does make things better eventually, but it sure is a pain to redo it. I thought at first that was how all bloggers hosted their pictures. It took me a while to learn otherwise.

I know right, The Vampire Knitting Club sounds so fun and cute. How fun your first read of the year was the same as Melanie’s.

  7. Oh man, that sucks about the Flickr situation :-/ So much work. I’ve already adjusted my tracking sheet a bit for this year. Removed a couple things, changed some things a bit. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying Chaos Station! I still haven’t finished posting my reviews for that series even though I read it like two years ago lol. The Heartstone Thief has an awesome cover! Happy New Year!

    • It was so much work and I am still not fully done, but at least I am below their limit now, so I can do the rest when I can. I don’t think I changed anything on my tracking sheet this year.

I am really enjoying Chaos Station! I was just thinking that I couldn’t remember if I had seen your review for the later Chaos Station books, but I guess that makes sense as you haven’t posted them. I like this cover for The Heartstone Thief and it sounds pretty good too.

  8. Ugh, I’m sorry to hear about the Flickr situation. As you know, I deleted my account there last year. Just up and deleted the whole shebang. A lot of images on my site are broken now and I have to go through and fix them. Sigh. So it’s probably best that you’re being proactive about it, instead of being spontaneous like me. Lol.

    • To be honest I was very tempted to just leave it be and let them delete the pictures, but I knew it would be much harder to figure out which pictures I had uploaded there. I deleted enough to be below the limit now, but if I have time I’ll probably try and do as many more as I can as I would like to have all the pictures hosted on my own site.

    • I hope you’re not over their limit, then you don’t have to worry. i finally got enough pictures deleted that I am under the 1000 limit now.

  9. I, luckily, hosted pics on Blogger, so I haven’t had to worry about that. Thank goodness. That’s quite a pain. I always like seeing what you’ve been cooking, and I’ll check out your favorite reads. I still haven’t posted mine, but will be soon. I’ll also check out your tour stuff. I’ve been really busy and have missed a bunch of tour emails. Have a fabulous week, Lola!

    • Glad to hear you host your pictures on blogger instead, that sounds like a better solution.

I am glad to hear you like seeing what I cooked. I always wonder if people like to see that. Thanks for checking out my tour stuff too!
