sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Itโ€™s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty decent week. I finished up this month’s assistant work for all my authors. And that’s about what I focused on this week, I got some some extra assistant work hours in this week as I didn’t have as much Lola’s Blog Torus work, except for a few review copies I had to send out.

I made beer bread last weekend. My boyfriend spotted the recipe somewhere online and it sounded too good to be true so I tried it. And it really was as easy as it sounded, just combine the ingredients, shape it and bake it. I normally hate baking bread, but this was so easy with how it didn’t have to rise. And it didn’t taste like beer at all. I’ll be making this again.

I am really enjoying my first audiobook. Still trying to figure out when I can read and when not, but I think I am getting the hang of it. I’ll definitely be getting the rest of the series in audio too after I finish with this one. It’s kinda funny as I never thought I would enjoy audiobooks, but always planned to give it as try and now I find out how awesome they are. And it opens a lot more possibilities for reading for moments when you don’t need all your attention, but can’t hold a book to read, audiobooks are perfect for those moments. I plan to write a blog post about my experience with listening to my first audiobook once I finish with this one. I am about halfway through at the moment.

Has anyone used or heard of Storytel? It’s a subscription type of service for ebooks and audiobooks. I am considering using it to listen to audiobooks as I can’t use Audible unless I win a book. I haven’t heard much of it before, so I was curious if anyone here used it?

Now let’s take a look at what I read last month!

  1. I haven’t made Beer Bread in ages, but it is good. LOL, I was worried my first time, too, but it is that simple and is just bread. ๐Ÿ™‚ Made our apartment smell so good, too.

Glad you had a good week of work and reading. Yay, that the audiobook is turning out a good experience for you. I like to listen while I do some of my simpler chores or go for walks on quiet streets.

Your nine books seem to be a good variety between romance, mystery, and a bit of fantasy. Mostly above average and series that you can keep following. ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice haul! I bought a couple this week for $.99 each that I hope I like in the Stoker & Holmes series by Colleen Gleason.

I haven’t heard of that reader service so can’t give an opinion. Sorry.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • Exactly, I was afraid it would taste like beer as I don’t like beer, but it’s just bread. And it’s so neat it doesn’t have to rise.

I mostly listen while doing simply chores or task that don’t require as much attention.

It was a good mix of genres this month.

I plan to give that reader service a try once I finish my current audiobook. They have a free trial. But I was hoping one of my blogger might’ve heard about them.

  2. Your experience with your first audiobook is further inspiring me to give it a go – I’ve no excuse not to, seeing as I already have an Audible account for my granddaughter and a fair number of good books to enjoy. I just need to get my Kindle Fire going… Have a great week, Lola.

    • I hope you give audiobooks a try and that’s handy you already have an account too. I am really enjoying my audiobook so far ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I tried to get into another audiobook a couple of months ago but I would rather just read it myself.

I think the weirdest thing I’ve ever baked was a Mincemeat pie. My dad loves them and so I made one and I just found it weird.

    • I can definitely see how audiobooks are not everyone. I am still surprised I enjoy them as much as I do.

I don’t think I ever baked a mincemeat pie. Although I have baked an onion pie that was surprisingly good.

    • That’s too bad, I was hoping you might’ve heard of it as I know you listed to a lot of audiobooks. It’s around $10 for a month, which seems like a great price even if you only listen to one audiobook and even better if you listed to more.

I am really happy I gave audiobooks a try as I am really enjoying this one, now I just have to figure out where I want to buy more as Kobo doesn’t sell audiobooks on the NL site yet sadly.

Libraries cost money here and most focus on dutch books, so I am not subscribed to any at the moment. I haven’t checked them in a while, so I have no clue how they’re doing nowadays with English books and audiobooks.

  4. Glad you found such a simple and good bread recipe! I’ve never made bread, but it did always seem complicated and difficult to get right. Also glad you’re still enjoying the audiobook! I haven’t tried that site, but maybe you’d be interested in Audiobook Boom. It’s for review copies of audiobooks, so selection is obvi limited, but maybe there’d be books you want? Have a great week!

    • Bread always takes such a long time with all the rising, I just want to make it and throw it in the oven and then it’s done, which can with this recipe. It’s awesome.

I just checked and I already signed up for Audiobook Boom. I am slowly trying to find some sites for audiobook review copies and audiobook deals, now that I now I plan to listen to more of them.

    • It was a good reading month :). The beer bread turned out really good. I am not a fan of zucchini, but now I am curious about zucchini bread. I agree it is fun to just listen to the story being told. It’s a whole different way of experiencing the story.

  5. Yay! I’m sooooo glad you like the audiobook! And I remember many conversations between us over the last few years where I have poked you to try them, and there just never was the opportunity. I’m so glad my instincts were right that you would love them. <3 I haven't heard of Storytel. I'm going to look into it!

    • I am so happy I finally gave audiobooks a try. I guess winning that giveaway audiobook code, was just the thing I needed to finally check them out. I remember we have had multiple conversations were audiobooks were mentioned and every time I kept saying I didn’t think it was for me, but that I did plan to give them a try. I never expected I would actually like them tough.

I did a bit more research on Storytel and they have some good reviews around on the web and for only $9.99 each month for unlimited listening (and reading too I think) it seems like a good deal. It’s a Swedish company I think, so that’s probably why most of my US peeps haven’t heard of them. Once I finish this audiobook I plan to try their free trail and see how it goes. I’ll make sure to share my experiences here.

  6. RO

Kudos to you for doing audiobooks! I’ve tried and tried, and just can’t seem to get into them, but it seems like it’s getting more and more popular these days. Yay on getting all that extra work from authors and getting it completed. I wish I had the courage to bake bread, but it would definitely be a HUGE disaster.(lol) Glad your beer bread turned out so tasty. Hugs..RO

    • I thought I wouldn’t be able to get into them either, but I am so glad I gave them a try and am enjoying them. It opens up a whole lot of extra moments to listen.

I actually hate baking bread and don’t have the patience for it, so I am glad this one was so easy.

  7. So why make beer bread if it doesn’t have a bit of beer flavor? My daughter has to be gluten-free so we make more cornbread these days. I make my other bread /muffin recipes with rice flour.

I started audiobooks in 2015. It’s made such a difference. I read about 70 more books a year. It’s great for traveling, cooking, knitting, sewing, folding laundry or whenever you need your hands and eyes elsewhere. And there are some amazing narrators. I always have an audiobook going now. Have a great week! Anne – Books of My Heart

    • Because beer bread doesn’t have to rise, that’s what the beer is for. You combine all the ingredients and put it in the oven. I don’t think I made cornbread or bread with rice floor before, but it’s great to see the type of alternatives they have nowadays.

I am a bit late to the whole audiobooks thing, but I am glad I discovered them now. I can see how I can get more read now that I add audiobook as there are quite some moments when you need your hands and eyes, but do have enough attention to listen. I plan to keep going with the audiobooks so I have always going on :).
