sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a tiring week. There was a lot of work, more troubles with my computer screens and a few nights of bad sleep. It also continued to be very warm, but luckily it finally cooled down a bit at the end of the week, which I was really happy about.

Lats Sunday we set up my newest computer screen. It doesn’t have the issue the previous one had and I can work on it. But it has another issue that really bugs me in how it has these faint vertical lines on the screen. It’s especially noticeable for orange and yellow colors. I think I figured out what it is, but not sure if it’s something I can fix. Or maybe the screen is just defect. I’ll probably end up returning this one too. Ugh. I just want a good screen that I can look at without getting annoyed and the more I research the more I figure out about screens and the less I feel like I am getting anywhere as it’s all so complicated and so many factors determine screen quality. It’s tiring trying to figure it all out. I did return my previous screen, so at least that’s done.

It also was a full week with work. I had 3 tours I organized running, which took me quite some time each day. And a cover reveal took place. Then there was the assistant work as well. So that kept me busy this week.

One of the good things that happened this week was the tv show we watched, Star Trek Discovery that’s really good. We finished watching it this week. It’s been a while since I watched such a good series and it’s so good that even my books didn’t seem to hold my attention as much. Now the wait for season 2 starts. I did write up a (very long) review for season one as I kept thinking about the series and figured I would share it with you.

What did I read this week?

Blazing Light

Blazing Light was a good ending to the series, the plot line was good in this one, but I didn’t care as much for the romance and there was a scene that felt like cheating to me, but got brushed over in the book.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Heart of a Dire Wolf by Carol Van Natta

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: To See the Sun by Kelly Jensen
– Review: Star Trek Discovery Season One

Let's get DigitalStrangers to SuperfansPressure HeadDestination Murder

I was in the mood for some non-fiction, so I bought two non-fiction books about book marketing to read. I already started the first one. The Plumber’s Mate series is one that’s been on my wishlist for a while and I decided to buy the bundle which contained all five books in the series so far. I only listed the first cover here. Now let’s hope I enjoy them. destination Murder was only 99 cents. I already read one of the stories in it Matsuri and Murder by SJ Pajonas, which is great, I hope to read the other stories soon.

Tell me about a good book you read or a good series or movie you watched?

  1. You did sound super busy, sometimes thats good and sometimes its just stressful.

Sorry about your computer monitor. Does the computer give you an option to calibrate it? Sometimes that can help but I am not sure with PC computers. Is there a store you can go to, to see how they work and pick the one you like best?

I have been binge watching old shows, the one I am currently watching is ER. I watched it when I was younger. Forgot how good the show was. I am also rewatching Buffy. I have a million new shows to watch but can never seem to get to them and always go back. 🙂

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! ox

    • It’s good and it’s a bit stressful in this case.

I did already calibrate it. I tried all the options or looked up what they did and nothing seems to help, so I think it’s a problem with the screen itself. I can go to a store, but there it’s very limited what they have and what not, so I usually prefer to just research on the internet and then order something. But that can be a bit challenging when you run into issues like these that you cna’t see until you have the screen.

It’s fun to re-watch a series you previously watched. There sure are a lot of shows out there.

  2. What a pain with the heat and screen troubles! Hopefully the cooler temps will stick around for you.
Yay for finishing your series though the possible cheating would be a downer for me, too. I’ll be curious to see your thoughts on the TV show.

I was glad to see the Plumber’s Mate series in your haul. The Destination Murder set looks good, too.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • I sure hope the cooler temps stick around, it’s so ncie to have soem cooler weather.

Yeah the whole scene just felt off to me and it felt like cheating to me even tough the characters didn’t seem to think so. They just shrugged it off too easily for me.

Star Trek Discovery was so good, I just had to write a review for it :).

From your reviews for the Plumber Mate’s series and those of another blogger I thought I would enjoy these and the publisher had a great deal on their site for the whole series set :).

    • Yeah I can’t believe my new screen also has an issue. Although at least I am sure now that I want an IPS screen as this one doesn’t have that issue I had with the previous screen. But I am just tired of all the research and looking at a screen that isn’t good.

I hope you get the chance to watch Star Trek Discovery, it was so good!

  3. Yes… I think your screen is faulty. We had a red line running down our TV and my son insisted that we return it as he said it would eventually burn out and when we told the shop the problem, they immediately replaced it with no quibbling, so I think you need to take it back:(. While it’s nice to be busy, I’m guessing you could do with things easing up a tad while you sort out your technical issues. I hope this is an easier week, Lola.

    • These lines are very faint and most noticeable with certain colors, but it’s still really annoying. I plan to return it, but not sure if it’s a common thing with this screen or not. So I might just go and find a different screen again.

I just wish I was busy, but without the technical issues, that would be nice.

  4. I was going to watch Star Trek Discovery but I noticed it wasn’t on regular cable channels. I’d have to pay for a new channel to watch it so that’s not happening. lol

Sorry to hear about the computer screen. Hope you get one that works this time.

    • That’s a shame it isn’t on your normal channels. I can see why you don’t fele like paying for new channel just to watch it.

I finally got a new screen this week that works, yay!

    • My thoughts exactly. I just returned that screen. I bought a different one and this one seems to be working so far, yay! Technology sure can be annoying at times.

    • It sure has been a hassle with the different screens, but I think I finally have one that works now. And everything about it is sure confusing as there are so many different aspects and things that influence the quality.

  5. Glad it cooled off some. I hate it when it’s too hot to really enjoy summer. And good luck with the computer screen- that would be SO frustrating! I had to replace mine not too long ago and luckily my new one is okay, but yeah- you never know.

So nice to hear that Star trek Discovery was good! I haven’t seen it yet but I need to binge it soon…

    • It’s been a nice temperature these past few weeks, which is nice. I bought a new screen again this week and this one turned out well. It really seems to be either you get lucky with a good one or you get a bad one.

Let me know what you think once you watched Star Trek Discovery. I really enjoyed the series and am looking forward to season two.

  6. I’m not much of a Star Trek fan but I have watched Discovery courtesy of the professor being a trekkie and I have to admit it wasn’t bad… I’ve watched worse! lol

I’m sorry you’re continuing to have screen issues, that sucks. Good luck finding a new one that suits!

    • I haven’t watched all the Star Trek series yet, but I did really enjoyed Enterprise, deep Space 9, Voyager and Discovery so far.

I think I finally found a screen that suits me.
