sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty busy, but good week for the most part. I felt a bit tired a few days and hope I don’t get the flu that seems to be going around. I finished up the assistant work for my authors for this month and did some work for my new author. I also worked on a review opportunity that should be live next week and sent out the media kits for the blog tour starting next week.

My reading mood stayed a bit weird. I do think my current read will pull me out of it, even tough it’s probably going to end up as a 3 star read. I think I was just in the mood for a genre switch and reading a contemporary Romance seemed to help. On my Kobo I finished the third Imprints book and promptly picked up book 4. I am binging this series which is so strange as I never do that, but it’s so good and I didn’t feel like picking up another book. I am making good progress on my current puzzle as well. And as February has ended it’s time for my February reading stats.

February Reading Stats

Books that I read:
Dangerous MovesPawprints & PredicamentsOn the HuntScorpio Hates VirgoThe Best Little WhorehouseThe Right MoveThe FachanLegacyMagic BornUpstaged

February wasn’t the best reading month. It started of great and I had some good reads, but I landed in a weird reading mood halfway through and had some trouble deciding what to read and just ended up with books which weren’t quite what I wanted to read.

  • Amount of Books Read: 10 (1 less than in January)
  • Genres: 2 Paranormal Suspense, 2 Contemporary Romance, 2 Paranormal Romance, 1 Science Fiction Romance, 1 Cozy Mystery, 1 Romantic Suspense and 1 Urban Fantasy
  • Favorite Book: On the Hunt by Teyla Branton
  • Ratings: 5 books got a 4 star and 5 books got a 3 star
  • Age Category: 7 Adult books and 3 New Adult books
  • Book Length: 7 full length books and 3 novella’s
  • Source: 6 books I got for reveiw and 4 I bought
  • New to me Authors: 2 new to me authors: LJ Swallow and Dyan Chick
  • Publisher: I read 8 self published and 2 from Kensington
  • Type of Romance: 6 books had a FM romance, 3 had a RH (Reverse Harem) romance and 1 MM Romance
  • Romance focus: 4 books had romance as a side plot line, 4 books had romance as the main focus and 3 had only a hint of romance
  • Point of View: 6 Female main characters, 1 Male main character, 1 multiple point of view and 1 Dual Point of view
  • Country:
  • 8 book set in the USA, 1 in the fictional city The Edge and 1 in space

What did I read this week?

Magic BornUpstaged

Magic Born fell a bit flat for me, lots of little things that didn’t work for me, but it wans’t a bad book per se. And I feel kinda bad that i was the first 3 star review for the book. Upstaged was a great read. I liked the mystery a bit less than in the first two books, but I liked how the mystery was pretty different again and I like seeing the romance change and progress.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Pawprints & Predicaments by Bethany Blake
Review: Wriggle & Sparkle by Megan Derr

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: Magic Born by Dyan Chick
– Review: On the Hunt by Teyla Branton

Book Haul:

Shoot the MessengerIllegal ContactQuinn's gambitGood Luck Charm

The cover of Shoot the Messenger caught my attention, it’s a slow burn RH sci-fi book, the blurb sounded good and it was only 99 cents and by an author whose books I had on my wishlist, so I grabbed this one without a second though. Illegal Contact I had on my wishlist since reading a great review for it by one of my blogger friends and decided to buy it. Quinn’s Gambit I found somehow when browsing books and it sounded like a good book, so I bought that one too. Good Luck Charm sounded like a fun contemporary romance read focused on the luck theme and was only 99 cents.

What was the best book you read in February? Do you binge read series?

  1. Oh, that funky reading mood. I’m glad you’re working through it and going with the genre mood change. Yay, love reading your stats. Even for the weird mood, you got several four stars and a good amount of indies read this month. Looks like you’re still making your goal of doing more variety in your romance type, too.

I’m a little envious that you are binging a series. I do alright binging two in a row, but I start to have issues if I keep going and don’t take a break from the series. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter who the author or what genre; I’m not a true binger I guess. LOL

Nice haul. I hope you like Illegal Contact. That’s the only one if read in your haul, but I thought it was pretty good.

    Enjoy your next week, Lola!

    • Yes I still had some good reads and I am glad I am getting some MM and Rh romance types read every month so far.

I am not a true binger either, which is why I am so surprised that I am binging this series. I usually read at least a book in between. For this series I read book 2 and 3 in a row and am now reading book 4. As I feel like if I do pick up another book I’ll be only thinking of this series instead, so I felt just continuing was better for now, until I get enough of it.

I bought Illegal Contact because of your review for it. I think I will enjoy that one πŸ™‚

  2. I’m guessing that you being so tired and a bit run down is probably impacting on your reading. I have found over the years that when that happens, I step RIGHT outside my comfort zone – read a non-fiction travel book, or a contemporary literary read, or a poetry book… It mostly works, too.

No, I don’t binge-read a series or author if I can avoid it, because I find I pick up the author’s writing tics which, otherwise, I don’t notice and it REALLY impacts on my reading enjoyment. Have a great week and maybe take a bit of a break and look after yourself, Lola:)

    • I am trying to get some extra rest and that seems to be helping so far. I also managed to get out of that weird reading mood this week, yay! I decided to switch things up and read a very different genre, which worked.

Same here. I usually get enough of a series if I binge read, so I always try and read another book in between. But with this series I’ve been enjoying binge reading a few books in a row.

  3. Reading slumps are never fun! I’m glad you’ve been able to get out of yours.

I actually binge-read sometimes, especially for series that I pick up when there are already several books released. If I enjoy the world where the characters live, I just want to stay there with them πŸ™‚

I hope you will have more energy this week, Lola, but I’m glad you had some needed rest last week.

Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • It seems a genre switch worked this time to pull me out of the reading slump πŸ™‚

I rarely binge read, but I’ve been enjoying this series so much I didn’t feel ready to pick up something else. I might take a short break after I finish this book.

    • I am sorry to hear that you can’t seem to find the time to read :(. I picked up a genre I hand’t read in a while and that seemed to help.

    • It was a good reading month. Although those 4 books were only from this week, I got some books in the previous weeks as well.

    • It ended up being a 3 star read, but it totally worked to get me out of my reading funk. That doesn’t happen often that a book I don’t love pulls me out of slump. So far a bit fo extra sleep seems to help, so I hope I don’t catch the flu.

  4. I feel like everyone is fighting something flu like πŸ™ I hope you’re not getting it either – I had it and it was no fun. I’m still fighting post-flu symptoms. I love finding a series that I like so much that I binge read it – doesn’t happen often, but it’s fun when it does. I’m glad you’re enjoying Imprints. Sounds like you’re off to a good start for March. Hope you have a great week!

    • I managed to avoid it so far. I am trying to get a bit more sleep and that seems to have helped so far. I almost never binge read and always read a book in between, but I am enjoying doing a bit of binge reading with this series.

    • That’s good to know you enjoyed the book you read by that author so far. Illegal Contact sounds really good, so I hope I can read it soon.

  5. I also got Shoot the Messenger this past week and I hope to read it soon once my alpha-reading obligations are done. You asked me about my puzzle and I forgot to respond! I haven’t started it yet because we were using the main table for other things, but I hope to start it this week. πŸ™‚

    • I have a bunch of review copies to get through first, but I hope to get to it soon. let me know what you think of it once you got the chance to read it! I hope you got to start your puzzle this week. My current puzzle is almost finished.

  6. You did really good for February reading! Congrats! I’m not familiar with most of your books, but that’s okay. I’ve been sticking mostly to authors I know that I like recently since I have so little reading time right now. Hope you have a great week!

    • I basically never binge read, even if it’s two books in the same series I read another one in between from another author. But it’s been fun binge reading this series for a bit, although I think I’ll take a short break after this one and read something else in between. I got out of my weird reading mood this week. I hope your reading mood gets better soon too.
