sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty good week. I got a lot of work done, three new sign-ups went live on Lola’s Blog Tours, two cover reveals took place, I had two tours run as well and sent out some media kits for events for next week. I did have two headaches and am still working on my computer troubles, but I found something that helps and I a few things listed I can still check/ try.

I am still looking for good sci-fi movie recommendations! So let me know about any good sci-fi movies you have watched?

Not much to tell besides that. I am trying to try a new recipe each week to mix thing in our menu up a bit again. I tried a new Buddha bowl recipe with soba noodles and a garlic soy sauce this week that turned out great. For next week I have a green-ish curry on the menu plan. We tried out a new brand of vegetarian meat substitution that turned out well, we had some that tasted a bit like fish sticks this week, which was interesting and pretty good. I also tried out sausage breads from a new to me brand, they were really good, so I am planning to try out more products by them next. And I made lemon muffins with lemon curd last week. The lemon curd turned out great, the muffins tasted good, but they sort of fell apart a bit. So lot’s of trying out new recipes and products lately.

It also was a good week reading wise. After I read Missing I was going to start a review book, but Starflight got my attention when I was putting Missing back on the shelf so I decided to go with that. On my ipad I finished Fantasy of Flight, which was my second 5 star read of the year. Yay! How many 5 stars did you give out this eyar so far?
Then I read a review book His Accidental Heir and am now reading a non-review book the Retreat. I am in a bit of a sci-fi mood it seems. There are 3 or so sci-fi ARC’s for which I am on ARC lists coming up around the next month or so, so that is good timing.

And for the dystopian/ sci-fi fans, I wanted to let you know about a giveaway that’s currently going on during the blog tour for Scandal by Athena Grayson! You can win one of the 2 paperback copies of the book (US Only) or one of the two $10 Amazon Gift cards. I really enjoyed this book! You can read my review of Scandal here. Picture of the Week

Mapo-Tofu-close-up
I made this dish yesterday, it’s called mapo tofu. It’s tofu and vegetarian minced meat in a bean type of sauce, it’s really good! I finally wrote and scheduled my recipe post for this dish, so you can read that in July!

What did I read this week?

Fantasy of FlightMissingHis Accidental heir

Fantasy of Flight was amazing, I just wanted to keep reading. My second 5 star book of the year. I decided to take a small break of the series after that. I read His Accidental Heir on my ipad after that, which was a good solid romance. I just started The Retreat, which is another series by the same author as Fantasy of Flight. I finished my evening book Missing, which was really good too and ma now reading Starflight. So another good reading week with 2 book that got a 4 star and even one 5 star.

  • Lemon muffins with lemon curd
  • Monday: Dal Dhokli

Book Haul:

<Crash Land on Kurai

Only one new book this week and it’s one of my most anticipated releases of the year! Crash land on Kurai is a spin-off from SJ Pajonas’s Nogiku series, but it can be read as a standalone as well. SJ Pajonas is one of my favorite authors, so I can’t wait to start reading this one! And I love this cover, it’s so pretty and I think it nicely captures both the sci-fi and Japanese elements. You can download a sample of the book that contains the first four chapters of Crash Land on Kurai from Instafreebie!

Freebies I grabbed:

You can stop by my facebook post here to see some freebies and cheap/ discounted book I found last week. Here’s the Facebook post for next week.

  1. Sounds like a productive week for you even with the computer blips and headaches. Your Buddha bowl sounds good.
Your reading week sounds like it was really good and yay for your second five star. I splash 5 stars around probably too often so I’m not sure how many i have. Good luck with your sci-fi binge. I have Starflight to read at some point, too.

    Have a great week, Lola!

    • It was a productive week indeed. I really like Buddha bowl type of dishes and I was happy to find a new dish that worked for me.

I really struggle giving out 5 star ratings, but no matter if you give them out often or not I still think every 5 star feels a bit extra special :).

I am really enjoying Starflight so far!

  2. I was really impressed by a movie I saw last year called Arrival. It’s about a linguist that is trying to decipher an alien language. I also really loved Intersteller, but I get the sense viewers either love the film or hate the film. And, if you ever feel compelled to watch a Sci-fi TV series, I recommend the X-files and Eureka (both are amazing shows).

    • I did look up Arrival, the description doesn’t really grab me for some reason, but another blogger last week also recommended it. I haven’t heard of that other movie and series you mentioned, I’ll look those up. thanks for the recommendations! As for series we’re currently watching Star Gate and we still have a lot of seasons to go in there, but it’s always good to have something listed for after that.

    • It really is a pretty cover! It was a really good book too, I am eagerly awaiting the release of book 2 in that series.

  3. Glad it was a good week, sorry for the headache. I was getting them yesterday but it was probably from the weather being so hot. I always get headaches when it’s hot outside.

I’m not a big fan of Sci-Fi so I don’t have any recommendations. I wish I did for you. 🙂 I’m more of a fantasy girl!

I hope you have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading!

    • I hate headaches, I am not sure why I got two of them last week.

Ah that’s too bad you don’t watch many sci-fi. We also watch fantasy, but we’ve been in a bit of a sci-fi mood lately, so I was hoping for some recommendations.

  4. I’ve been in a sci fi mood too which is nice. Glad you liked Missing. Starflight is pretty good, hope that one works for you. As for movies, I finally watched Mockingjay PArt 2 this week and liked it. And I watched 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was okay- it’s not really sci fi much til the end, but the end was intense.

I haven’t given out too many 5 stars this year either, even though I’ve had lots of books I really liked. I kinda reserve the 5 stars for the ones that really get me!

    • I am really enjoying Starflight so far :). I didn’t like Doran at first, but he’s growing more likable now.

I’ve only seen the first Hunger Games movie, it was a nice movie. I haven’t watched the rest yet.

  5. Glad to hear you had a good productive week, so I’m sorry to hear you are still struggling with headaches – and that the computer is still messing you around. Let’s hope your possible fixes work. As for science fiction film recommendations – my standout favourites – District 9, Moon and Gattaca. Do let me know if you watch them and how you get on. In the meantime have a great week. My Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/06/18/sunday-post-18th-june-2017/

    • I found a way to sort of fix the computer troubles, but it’s more a way around it than actually fixing it.

I haven’t heard of those movie titles before, will look them up :).

  6. I’ve given out quite a few 5 stars this year as I’ve read a lot of great books so far. I’m hoping for good things for the rest of the year! I can’t stand still for more than five ot ten minutes because of my back so I rarely do any cooking other than quick stir frys. I mostly use oven or microwave these days so I can just let things cook!

    • That’s great you had a lot of great books so far :). Oh that must be difficult if you can’t stand as long, I can imagine oven or microwave dishes are really handy then.

    • Yes I think mapo means something like spicy bean sauce, normally it’s very spicy. My version is very mild though as I can’t stand spicyness. There are different type of bean sauces you can use for the sauce and it’s more or less hot depending on what you use. It’s really good!

    • It also got hot here and it definitely diminishes my enthusiasm for cooking. It was nice to try out a few things, the curry this week turned out okay, but it needs a little tweaking to be really good I think.
