sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty good week. There was still plenty of work to keep me busy, but a bit less than in the previous weeks. I guess everyone is busy preparing for Christmas. I got a bit more reading done and even a bit of gaming. I got an early Christmas present from my boyfriend, who pre-ordered the game Yooka Laylee for me. I can’t wait to play it! This is probably my most anticipated game release of 2017.

Last weekend we set up our Christmas tree, picture below. We have a small fake tree, but it really adds to the Christmas feel in the house. We did buy a new string of lights for it as the previous ones got very hot when they were on.

A few other random things. You can see my year in books on Goodreads! I thought it was fun to see. And the Coyer reading challenge has started! I always enjoy this challenge and it’s always a lot of fun. I started a new facebook post with free and cheap books for this week. I am trying out this way to share freebies and cheap books during the week, so you can actually get them when they are free or discounted. You can like the post or stop by during the week to check out the comments with free and cheap books. I already posted a few books in the comments.

Picture of the Week

Christmas tree 2016
Here’s a picture of your Christmas tree. It feels very festive to have a Christmas tree in the house and I like the new lights.

What did I read this week?

Wild GameWhere we WereA Cotswold ChristmasThe Trouble with Mistletoe

This was a good reading week, yay! I read two shorter reads (Where we Were and A Cotswold Christmas) and managed to end the week with finishing 4 books. I really enjoyed Wild Game, great start of this spin-off series, although I do think it’s best to start with the River pack Wolves series. Where we Were was a great novella that got me curious about this series, I plan to buy book 1 as soon as it releases. A Cotswold Christmas didn’t quite hit the mark for me and fell a bit flat, but it was a cute read. The Trouble with Mistletoe was a great read, I know I took a long time reading this one, but I did really enjoy it and a fun book to read during this time.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Hidden Sight and Beyond Sight were both 0.99$ and I really like the sound of this series and decided to get them both. I got Speak no Evil for review from the author, can’t wait to read this one! I finished The Trouble with Mistletoe this week so I bought One Snowy Night so I can read that before starting the third book in this series.

Freebies I grabbed:

I got the following freebies this week (they were free when I got them):

  1. I love your tree, Lola – it’s really cute. We also have an artificial tree, though it was decorated, chiefly by my 7 year old grandson, so is rather overburdened with tinsel! I’ve just about finished buying the presents, but still not remotely ready for next week. Oh well… hopefully, I’ll make it in time! ‘Wild Game’ looks interesting and I’m glad it was an enjoyable read. I particularly want something engrossing at this time of year to whisk me away…

    • Thanks! Aww that’s nice you let your grandson decorate it! I hope he had fun decorating the tree.

Wild Game was a really good read, I hope I can make time to continue the series soon.

  2. What a cute Christmas tree, I have a little one like that set up on my desk. Only it’s blue and has built in lights. We have a big tree too, also fake. I’d like to have a real tree but not sure it’s a good idea with the cats. Thanks for sharing! Have a Merry Christmas.

    • That sounds nice with how it has inbuilt lights, then you only have to get it out of it’s box and set it up each Christmas. A tree is always a bit challenging when you have cats around.

  3. oh I love the Christmas tree. I hope you enjoy Yooka Laylee! Ok now off to see your year in Goodreads. I bet is HUGE πŸ™‚ such an avid reader. I’ll be visiting all the recipes I missed lately. I see a lot of peanuts this week and, though we are a peanut free zone at home, I’m sure I can modify them!

    • Thanks! It was fun to set it up. I can’t wait till Yooka Laylee is released! It’s a spiritual successor to one of my favorite games that I played a lot when i was younger, Banjo Kazooie. And from the trailer from Yooka Laylee it looks like it manages to be both nostalgic and familiar and new as well.

I hope you enjoy the recipes, I don’t post them every week anymore, but manage to post about two per month now. In most cases you could skip the peanuts or replace it with another nut or ingredient.

  4. Hey nice tree! I like the red lights. Yay for gaming time (and a new game). That year in Goodreads thing is kinda cool, although mine showed how little time I’ve actually spent on Gr this year. Oops! Maybe I’ll do better in ’17 lol.

    Good luck with COYER!

    Lots of good freebies… πŸ™‚

    • The small trees are nice and there are many places you can place them.

I thought it looked very nice to see all the books I read this year like that.

  5. Sounds like you had a pretty good week, Lola. And I love your little tree! It’s so cute! We just put ours up today – we were waiting on our oldest to be home from college so we could do it all together. The list of books you read this week looks good and I have a couple of them already. πŸ˜‰ Oooh, and what a great idea creating a facebook past to share freebies/cheapies! I’ll have to check it out.
    Have a great week, my friend!! {{{hugs}}}

    • I hope you have fun putting your tree up with all your kids! It was a good reading week for me :).

I hope you like the facebook post, I wanted to have a way to share freebies or discounted books immediately and hopefully actually have some people see it. And this way i can also share books I already own or don’t buy.

  6. I love your tree. We have a fake one too and it makes it easier each year to decorate, instead of going out and buying a real tree. Plus my husband has allergies so a fresh tree would make him feel miserable lol. I need to finish Audrey Carlan’s series. I read the first book and I’m curious to see how this series ends. I hope you have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!
    Kathy recently posted…Weekly Wrap-Up #112My Profile

    • It sure is easier to have a fake tree. I really liked how that series ended, there were a few books I enjoyed more than other and a few that where a bit meh, but overall it was a great series and I enjoyed reading it.

  7. Sounds like you had a well-balanced week of work and fun. Glad your new game is a hit. Your tree looks very festive. I have a tabletop tree, too. Whew, still not adjusted to the idea that Christmas is next week.

I’ll have to go checkout your freebie posts.

Nice reading week it seems. I’ve enjoyed starting up with the COYER challenge, too, though wow, there are so many freebies on my ereader that need to be read.

Your meals sound delicious. That peanut pasta has appeal right now.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • I haven’t actually played the new game yet as that was a pre-order, but I did play another game last week.

It’s crazy how Christmas suddenly is so close.

I’ve been enjoying doing the freebie posts on facebook this way. I hope my followers like it as well.

The peanut pasta was really good!

  8. Your Christmas tree is so very lovely, dear Lola! We just put ours up this week as well, so high five on the lateness, haha. I find a tree adds such a beautifully festive atmosphere to home – & it is perfect to sit around & read Christmassy stories with. Thank you, as well, for sharing the Facebook post of free & discounted books! One of my resolutions for 2017 is to cut down on my bookish spending, so I am hopeful this will very much help in that area. I hope this week is lovely for you, my friend, & an early merry Christmas! <3

    • It really adds a fun festive atmosphere to the house to have a tree. I hope the free and discounted books post will help! I think I plan to keep it up like this and do a new post each week where I share all the free and cheap books I find. I hope you’ll have a great week too!

  9. Your tree is very cute and festive. We don’t put up a tree due to having 3 cats in this house, I am afraid a tree wouldn’t survive a day. I like the idea of your Facebook freebie page, I will be visiting it soon! And you are probably right about the lower amount of work due to Christmas, people just don’t do that much work on Christmas week it seems. I hope you continue enjoying the season and all your new books and your game!

    • Thanks! I can imagine having a tree with cats int he house is a bit of a problem. I hope you’ll enjoy the facebook post with freebies and cheap books. I plan to keep this up with a new post each week.

  10. Your tree is super adorable! When we lived in an apartment and the first year we had a baby, we had small trees as well and I always enjoyed them. I love the name of that game! A play on ukulele? What’s the game like? And I’m glad you still had work to do even though the holidays are looming ahead. I’m getting that pre-holiday anxiety of “did I buy and do everything?” I can’t wait for it to be behind me!
    S. J. Pajonas recently posted…Sunday Update – December 18, 2016My Profile

    • I like the small tree, we could probably fit a bigger tree in our house as well. But I like this one, so we just stick with this one for now and just bought some new lights for it.

I like the whole feel of Christmas, but the actual Christmas days are a bit stressful as well. I am glad I still have some work to do these weeks.

Yes it’s a play on ukulele. It’s a collect a ton platformer game. It has a story and different worlds or levels and you have to collect certain items. You can look up a trailer on youtube, those give a good view of what the game will look like.
It’s made by some of the same people who made Banjo Kazooie, which was one of my favorite games when I was younger. And judging from the trailer this one has the same feel as that one, while also being a whole new game. So I am very excited for this one, just a few more months till it releases.

  11. Wonderful that you had a great week! My week was good too. I’m now getting ready for family that will be visiting for the holiday. My son’s off school until the new year too, so I’ll be doing very little online.
You picked up some great books last week: Hidden Sight and Beyond Sight look good. Hope you enjoy. Happy Reading!!

  12. Yeah, I imagine authors probably aren’t doing too much blog tour type promoting the last two weeks of the year since everyone is busy and not doing as much blogging and whatnot.

Your tree is so cute! I love it <3 And I especially love all the red πŸ˜›

You did have a great book week! And you got some great looking new books πŸ˜€ Have a wonderful week!

    • Actually a new tour got booked this week and I got another tour sign-up post up. But it does seem communication is a bit slower this time of the year, which is understandable. I am hoping in the new year a few more tours will get booked :).

It was nice to have a goo reading week.

    • We only had to move some stuff around that’s normally on that table. Our other table is a bit crowded for now. Outside decorations are nice too, we don’t have any of that.
