sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?
This was a nice week, I got quite some reading done and spent time scheduling blog posts. I hope those of you who live in the US had a great thanksgiving!

Our dishwasher broke last week and this week someone stopped by to fix it. It seemed to be a minor problem as it was fixed pretty fast and luckily it felt within our warranty. I didn’t mind doing the dishes by hand, but I am happy to have my dishwasher back as well!

I always go to a certain supermarket close by, but as it was close I had to go to another supermarket for twoo weeks. This week it opened again and it changed a lot. They rebuild the whole store and it looks a lot different now, the store is a lot bigger and their assortment of goods is bigger. It was a lot of fun shopping there, although I had some trouble finding things due to the different layout. And they sell the vegetarian bapao’s again, yum! Those things are delicious and I haven’t been able to buy them for a few years and now they’re back!

I’ve been busy working on some more recipe posts for my upcoming cooking feature and decided I wanted a plugin to show those neat pin-it buttons over images to make pinning easier for people. I did some searching around and eventually decided on a plugin. It works pretty well and now almost every image is pinneable. I think it’s pretty neat!

I think I am going to stay away from Netgalley for a while. I got two books I was really excited for last week, but I ran into some problems when trying to read them and this isn’t the first time. I have a kobo e-reader and epub files work best on it. When I get a netgalley file it opens it in Adobe Digital Editions and from there I place it on my Kobo. Now in Adobe I can’t easily see whether the file is an epub or pdf, so only after putting it on my Kobo I find out if I cna read it. A pdf file shows up really small and I can’t read it without straining my eyes. And I hate having to contact publishers or authors for another file. And sometimes they don’t have another file and it’s just so frustrating as I really wanted to read those books and now I can’t.

I am a bit sad today is the last day of sci-fi month as I had a lot of fun participating. I do have to say that a month long challenge like this is quite challenging and I am kinda happy to get back to my normal schedule.

blog ahead
I am really happy with how well I did for blog ahead. I ended this month with 30 posts scheduled and wrote 25 of those during this month. I hope I can keep up the work and stay ahead! I really surprised myself as I didn’t expect to get this many posts written

What did I cook for dinner this week?
– Sunday: Mashed Potatoes with Apple – recipe post coming in January
– Monday: Peanut Pasta – recipe post coming in February
– Tuesday: Risotto with Apples and corn – recipe post coming in January
Baked: Chewy Chocolate Snickerdoodles – recipe post coming in February
– Wednesday: Spinach Dahl – recipe post coming in February
– Thursday: Spinach Dahl leftovers
Extra: Egg Salad – new recipe
– Friday: Baked Rice
– Saturday: veggies in sauce with noodles – used a wok sauce for the sauce and it was so bland the whole dish didn’t really taste lik anything.
I plan to try new recipes at leats once before making a recipe post as it’s easier to make something I already made once.

Ratty cave
We made a cave for our rats in their cage this week. Pita found it first as we hid a doggy cookie inside, I think she smelled it. They seem to like their cave and it ust looks so cool. My boyfriend came up with the idea.

Blurb:
This is a standalone novella, intended as a prequel to the Darkworld series. As it takes place one year before the events of Darkness Watching, it doesn’t contain any spoilers (although it does hint at things which will come into play later in the series).

Freakish powers and staring demon eyes aren’t part of Claudia’s plans for the future – and neither is ending up stuck at the gloomy, isolated University of Blackstone. But bad life decisions are the least of her problems, when a split-second decision to help out another magic-user puts her in the crossfire of both the shadow-beasts and the creepy organisation which hunt them down.

Claudia’s never had to worry about making the right choice before, but every decision matters when you have a Darkworld connection. Soon, she’s going to have to make a choice: turn her back on the crazy and try to live a normal life, or take the monsters down.

But in a world where everyone seems to have secrets, can she really trust her fellow magic-users – or even herself?

He was attractive, talented…and way off limits.

Heather Gadway may have been a world-class college pitcher and a top university coach, but she’s a rank amateur when it comes to managing the Falcons, her father’s struggling minor league team. And when it comes to managing her aggravating attraction to Garrett Wolf, their talented new pitcher. It’s going to be difficult enough to make it as the first female manager in the league and prove to her overly critical father she’s worthy. No distractions. No missteps. And certainly no romances with players. Everything stands between them—including their troubled pasts—even as Heather’s world falls apart and Garrett’s the one who’s there to catch her…

  1. It’s good that your dishwasher is working again, and that the repairs were under the warranty! Those repairs can become pretty expensive sometimes! I love going to the same supermarket, because I know where everything is, and then my shopping is a lot quicker! It’s nice when they re-do a whole store, but it’s also very confusing. Even if you found your fave veggie meal again 🙂
YAY for These Broken Stars! I hope you’ll enjoy it, Lola.
I’ve had the same trouble sometimes with Netgalley books, I use Bluefire on my iPad when I receive epubs, but even that doesn’t always work. And it also means I really have to read a book before a certain date. I much prefer the mobi versions, as they will stay on my kindle until I want to read them – even if the book is archived on Netgalley.
Have a wonderful Sunday and a fantastic week 🙂

    • Not sure if we would’v ebeen able to afford repairs if we had to pay, os I am really happy it still fell under the waranty. If it had broken 3 weeks later we would’ve had a problem.
I had to go to another store for the past 2 weeks and it was horrible, although at the new store I still had to search as they rebuild it completely, but their store design just makes mroe sense to me. And it was so fun to see what changed! I am really happy they seel the bapao’s again, it’s more a snack, but they are so yummy!

It’s susch a shame to get books through netgaley and then not beign able to read them. My kobo always had that too were the books stayed on my device even after they are archived, but last week I suddenly couldn’t access a book naymore as it was archived :(. Not sure what changed, but it’s annoying.

I hope you have a great sunday and week as well! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Our dishwasher is almost 2 years, so I am glad they could fix it. I hope your appliances won’t die all at onc,e must be horrible trying to replace them all.

  2. I bet it’s nice to have the dishwasher back and glad it fell under the warranty.
I just finished A league of Her Own and really enjoyed it. I sometimes have trouble with a file when it loads to my kindle. Even when I enlarge the text it sometimes stays too tiny. I’ll admit, unless I can easily get a different file, I don’t often read them when they are that hard to see.

    • Yeah when our dishwasher broke we suddenly noticed how much we got used to having it, so I am glad it’s working again! I already finished A League of Her Own as well, I got an e-copy file as well. I really enjoyed it and liked learning more about baseball, my review will be up on the blog next week!

Just like you unless I can easily get a different file I probably won’t read the book. In my early days on netgalley I once read a book with too small font, but it was just too frustrating. It just isn’t nice when you have to strain your eyes while reading. The enlarge text function works a bit sloppy on my e-reader and turnig gpages/ seeing the rest of the page is difficult.

    • Thanks 🙂 I certainly got some great books this week, I am really looking forward to reading them. I already read A League of Her Own (as I also got an e-copy earlier) and Judgment.

    • Don’t want them to get bored 😉 and it’s fun to think of new things to add to their cage. They did throw al the aubiose from the cave, but closed a few entrances, it’s fun seeing them enjoy the cave.

    • I have read and enjoyed the first two books, so I am looking forward to this book. The rats really enjoyed the cave, so it will make a more regular appearance from now on!

    • Hi Peggy, long time no see! Glad to hear you’re still bloging! Those 30 posts are spread out over the next 3 months, but it feels good to have some post written and scheduled in advance.

  3. Aha!! I’ve been subscribed to your Blog Tour blog and not Lola’s Reviews! I’ve missed so much. Now I’m subscribed here and on top of posts. Isn’t it exciting when a grocery store gets an overhaul for the better. I really love grocery shopping. It’s the only place I don’t budget and I buy what I want and what I need (within reason). Because food is awesome.

Yay for THESE BROKEN STARS! I loved that book! I hope you enjoy it too 🙂

    • Well glad to hear you’re subscrribed here as well :). I am really happy with the overhaul the grocery store got, it certainly was for the better! I love grocery shopping as well although we do have to budget while gorcery shopping. Usually we budget on the yummy stuff and try to buy cheaper products if available and the quality is still good.

I hope I get the chance to read These Broken Stars soon, I heard so many good things about it and the cover is so pretty!

    • Yes the rats seemed to like their cave :). I am really happy I participated in blog ahead, it really helped with scheudling some posts in advance!

  4. I know, it seems like this year went by faster than usual! I just can’t believe that 2015 will be here in a month’s time. It’s crazy. O_O Oh my gosh, your dinner schedule last week looks so perfect — especially the mashed potatoes with apples! I never would have thought of adding apples to mashed potatoes, but it sounds really, really good, so I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for that recipe. I apologize in advance if I start drooling. xD

Anyway, I hope you have a great month ahead of you, Lola! And hopefully that NetGalley problem, if it is one, gets fixed. I know how horrible it is needing to strain your eyes to read small prints. I do it all the time when I read manga on my phone, but thankfully there’s the zoom option available even if it’s troublesome.

    Happy December! 😀

    • It’s really good! I never would’ve thought of it myself eithe,r but I foudn the reicpe in a magazine once and I loved it! Glad to hear you liekd my dinner schedule, I plan on adding that to my sunday posts from now on.

I contacted the publisher’s of the books I had issues with, but both didn’t have an epub file :(. So I probably will just buy them once they release.

Thanks for stopping by, hope you have a great december as well!
