The Guise Of JusticeThe Guise Of Justice (Scales of Justice #3)
by Laura Greenwood

My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Alternate History Urban Fantasy/ Mythology
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
With all the secrets Rera has been amassing, the last thing she expected was to add a fake relationship to the mix.

After a brief slip of the tongue, Rera now has to pretend to be in a relationship with Ben, which would be a lot easier if he weren’t charming and thoughtful in a way that can sometimes make her forget that it’s fake.

Meanwhile, her job becomes more complicated as she sinks deeper into her undercover role, and getting closer to a position she never wanted to take in the first place.

The Guise Of Justice is book three in Scales Of Justice, an urban fantasy series based on Egyptian mythology and set in the same world as The Apprentice Of Anubis.

If you love Egyptian mythology, alternative versions of the modern day, temple politics, slow-burn workplace romance, and a world where the gods are real, then the Scales Of Justice series is for you!

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and was excited to read this third book. I had a great time being back in this world and reading about Rera. She has a lot to deal with in this book, she’s now fake dating Ben and slowly realizing her feelings are not fake and she’s still handling her undercover work pretending to still be a thief while now being a blessed apprentice for Ma’at and being able to tell when someone lies. There’s a big job coming up in this book that she’s preparing for and that’s playing out in this book. And she gets to meet Ben’s parents.

This book was really good and I wanted to keep reading to find out what was happening next. I especially liked seeing Ben and Rera grow closer. They are fake dating, but it’s clear their feelings are genuine. There are some very sweet scenes between them and I like it when Laura Greenwood writes these longer series were I can really see the romance deepen between the characters. I like how Ben and Rera are there for each other and help each other out.

Plot wise this one is interesting too with this big job coming up and Rera has to pretend to be a priestess while not letting on she’s actually a blessed apprentice to the other thieves. I like how she wants to help her friends, but it’s clear how much she struggles with being a thief. I really liked seeing her friendship with Kat develop and seeing what is going on in Kat’s life in this book.

This is such an interesting world with the Egyptian Empire not falling and all the Egyptian touches. I didn’t know a lot about Egyptian mythology before I started this series and it’s been fun learning a bit more about it. It’s been interesting learning more about the temples, apprentices and blessed. Rera’s power to be able to tell the truth adds an interesting layer to a lot of scenes.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this book! Rera is fake dating Ben while slowly realizing she has real feelings for him and there’s this big thieving job coming up and she’s undercover pretending to still be a thief while actually be a blessed apprentice for Ma’at. I really liked seeing Ben and Rera grow even closer in this one and seeing their romance develop, there are some very sweet scenes and I like how they are there for each other. It was interesting seeing the plot play out and I also really liked seeing Rera and Kat’s friendship deepen and seeing what is going on in Kat’s life. This one kept my attention and I was eager to read more. I already have the next book and hope to get to that one soon as I want to know what happens next!

It’s such an exciting series so far. I look forward to more books in the series. The alt history background is so interesting and well done.
