Ghosts of the World FairGhosts of the World Fair (Parisian Ghosts #6)
by Janna Ruth

My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
When the past collides with the present, everyone’s secrets are at risk—including the dead’s.

The ghosts of Paris are gathering for a once-in-an-afterlifetime event: a recreation of the 1889 World Fair, hosted by none other than Gustave Eiffel himself. The undead ingenuity on display is impressive, but not every ghost—or whisperer—is attending with good intentions.

While the ghost police, led by Sébastien’s ruthless father, tighten their grip on whisperers, Sébastien and I are on a mission to expose their corruption. But justice has its price: my family is under threat, my sister Hélène plans to betray me to the enemy, and Gaspar—my sweet hedgehog boy—is slipping further into a darkness I’m terrified I can’t save him from.

Everything comes undone at the World Fair. Alliances will be tested, enemies confronted, and sacrifices made. It’s good to celebrate the past, but if I fail, neither the living nor the dead will have a future.

Urban Fantasy with a French twist. If you like cave-crawling adventures, hopeless romantics, and ghosts, you’ll enjoy Ghosts of the World Fair, the 6th book of the Parisian Ghosts series. Travel to Paris today to attend the wondrous Exhibition Universelle of the undead.

My Review

After reading Ghosts of the Provence I didn’t wait long to start this one. I had to know how Alix’s story continues. This book starts dealing with the aftereffects of the previous books. Alix has a lot to deal with in this book. Gasper is still not himself and she has no clue how to help him. She’s struggling with what happened in the Provence. She is growing closer to Sébastien. Then there is GoPol who is still after her and her plans to deal with that. And there is a ghostly world fair, bringing one of the old world fairs back, but now with ghostly interventions.

For some reason this book didn’t quite grip me as much as the previous one, but it was still an engaging story. I was curious to see how Alix would deal with everything. I had expected there to be more focus on Gasper, but he’s actually just a plot line in the back that sometimes pops up and doesn’t progress much till the end. There is way more about Sébastien and Dix, which I did like and I feel these past few books really added depth to Sébastien’s character and made him more interesting. The ending of this book felt a bit rushed, some big thing developed really quickly, and I am left with so many questions, but I think those will be answered in the next book. I liked how one of the overarching plot lines finally got resolved with that and I look forward what’s next for the next book.

I like reading about Alix, she’s such an interesting and fun character to read about. I like how much she cares, but about the living and the dead. And I like the way she interacts with the ghosts and listens to them and treats them like real people. The ghostly world fair added some fun and lightness to the story and it was fun to learn a bit about the world fair. I also like seeing her grow closer to Sébastien. I would’ve liked if she spend more time on trying to help Gasper, but they did investigate what they could and there wasn’t much more they could do for a while. I think there is some resolution on that front toward the end of the book and I am curious to see were things go romance wise in the next book. I again really liked how Alix is there for Dix and also seeing how Sébastien and Dix have grown closer.

To summarize: This was another engaging installment in this series. There is a lot going on and I was curious to see it all play out. Some overarching plot lines finally get resolved in this one and I am excited to see what this means for future books. I like reading about Alix and the way she interacts with ghosts and how much she cares. Her relationship with Sébastien deepens in this book and I’ve enjoyed getting to know him better. I also like how Alix is there for Dix. I look forward to the next book!
