Fight For Us Fight For Us (King’s Inn Book 4)
by Sophia Quinn

My Rating: 3 stars

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age Category: Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
Willow King never meant to fall for the enemy…

The Montagues and Capulets have nothing on the Kings and Spencers. Willow’s family has been feuding with their neighbors as long as anyone can remember. She’d heard all the tales of their treachery and greed. So when Eric Spencer betrayed her trust, there was no one to blame but herself. She should’ve known better. But try telling that to her broken heart.

Now, with the holidays approaching, Willow’s surrounded by friends and family at the inn, but she’s never felt more alone. She can’t admit just how badly she’d been duped by Eric, or how far she’d let him in. So when she finds herself lost in the woods and a gruff old man on her walkie talkie helps her out, she’s all too quick to befriend the kind stranger. Soon she finds herself confiding in her new friend, the one person who understands her. Except… he might not be a stranger, after all.

Eric Spencer has no business talking to Willow on the radio. Especially when it’s clear she doesn’t even know it’s him. But this is the only way she’ll speak to him, and the temptation to stay close is too great. If only he could tell her the truth about his feelings for her, and why he’d pushed her away. But it’s not that simple. The age-old feud has grown into a legal battle, and both their families’ futures are at stake.

Untangling the past and setting the story straight might just be the only way to end the tension. If he can convince Willow to give him another chance and help set the record straight about their families’ history, maybe, just maybe, this Romeo and Juliet will find their happily ever after…

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Fight for Us the fourth and I think the last book in this series. I was eager to get to see Eric and Willow’s romance wrap up. Their romance has been progressing throughout the past 3 books and in this book they are the focus. I was wondering whether the last brother Anthony will still get his romance, but this book felt like the last one, so I think not.

Fight for Us starts with the breakup scene basically after Eric betrayed Willow at the end of book 3. So it starts with them being apart and struggling. Those scenes are never my favorite part of romance books and having a book start that way was just not very compelling to me. Things do improve later on, but it takes a while and I found the first part of this book not as interesting with them being apart. I’ve also been struggling reading books set in winter as I struggle with seasonal affective disorder and I somehow read way too many winter-y reads this season. I know to avoid those next year.

I’ve really liked Eric and Willow’s romance in the past 3 books and was so excited for this book, but something about it just didn’t fully work for me. I can’t fully figure out why, but I just wanted to be as wrapped up in their romance as in the past 3 books, but I wasn’t. Maybe it was my mood or something about this book not quite working for my reading mood, but I just wasn’t as invested as I wanted. I really enjoyed their romance in the first 3 books and I like them together, but this book just wasn’t fully doing it for me.

This book is structured differently than most romance book with how it basically starts partway through their romance already and I recommend reading this series in order. Besides Eric and Willow’s romance there’s also Charlie and Rose’s romance from the past, they are the couple Eric and Willow find notes and treasures from and in this book they fully figure out what happened to them. I thought that was interesting and having these two romance play out side by side worked well.

I liked the last part of the book more once Eric and Willow get together again. It takes them a while to get there and there was this part were they communicate by walkie-talkie except Willow doesn’t know she’s speaking with Eric. Which I thought felt a bit off, but it easily gets resolved and brushed aside once they find out. One that note I felt like their reconciliation was quite easily and smoothly once they finally meet face to face again, I didn’t really want it drawn out, but I would’ve liked them talking things through a bit more. I also thought the family feud plot line got resolved quite easily in this book after basically no progress at all during the past 3 books. It just felt a bit too easy for me.

I liked the wrap up of Eric and Willow’s romance, they really are very sweet together and it’s clear how much they care for one another. I also liked seeing more of all the previous couples and spending more time with these characters.

To summarize: I liked Eric and Willow’s romance and they are so sweet together. I liked seeing them find their happy ending and figure out what happened with Charlie and Rose, whose past romance we get to read too. Something about this book wasn’t fully working for me tough. Part of that is having the book start with them being apart as well as the winter-y setting not doing it for me while it’s winter and my struggles mood and energy wise due to the season. And there was just something I can’t quite figure out, but this book didn’t hook me as much as I had wanted. It took a while to get them to reconciliation and I enjoyed the book more after that, but it still didn’t fully hit the highs I was hoping for. I liked seeing Eric and Willow figure things out and fighting for them. The family feud lot line got resolved a bit too easily with how long it had been going and no progress at all during the last few books. The ending was sweet and I was happy to see them find their happy ending.
