Easy
by Tammara Webber

Blurb from Goodreads: When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup two months into sophomore year. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Leaving a party alone, Jacqueline is assaulted by her ex’s frat brother. Rescued by a stranger who seems to be in the right place at the right time, she wants nothing more than to forget the attack and that night – but her savior, Lucas, sits on the back row of her econ class, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. Her friends nominate him to be the perfect rebound.

When her attacker turns stalker, Jacqueline has a choice: crumple in defeat or learn to fight back. Lucas remains protective, but he’s hiding secrets of his own. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Mature Young Adult / New Adult

My review:
I would like to give this 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed it, but also had quite a lot of small issues with it. Also while I know Easy was one if the earlier New Adult books, in certain parts it feels like just another NA book. I guess it just depends on when I read this, if this was my first NA book I am sure I would’ve enjoy it more.

I enjoyed the story and at first it certainly was an addictive book, but later on I felt like it started to drag a bit. Even though I read it quite fast, I still felt like somet hings took too long. There where too many secrets between Lucas and Jacqueline. Also I didn’t like how at first Jacqueline was making Lucas chase her. And how sometimes things seemed to focus more on making-put than actually getting to know each other. At the beginning something bad happens, I have to say this probably not much of a spoiler, but I am still not mentioning it. Point it that Jacqueline keeps this a secret for too long in my opinion, she doesn’t even tell her best friend. It just felt a bit strange and while at times it felt like this was a huge part of how she felt, while at other times it wasn’t mentioned at all.

I liked the college setting of this book, it’s one of the reasons I like the New Adult genre. This book really gives of that college feeling, although I thought it was a bit weird that while there are lot’s of scenes of economics class, there aren’t much scenes about other classes. Also Jacqueline doesn’t seem to interact or crave interaction with anyone beside Erin or Lucas. It just felt a bit off at times and there were lots of small things like not being honest with each other or parts of the characters that didn’t get enough attention. For example only later in the book in a mail interaction nonetheless it is mentioned she plays bass, something I think would be a big part of her life.

I did like the characters, Jacqueline was a nice girl, but I still felt like there was more to her, there where parts that I just wanted to know what she thought of things, why she didn’t bring things up, why she didn’t tell things, if she cared or not, if she felt emotions or not at certian parts. Well there was just a lot of things I kept wondering about. Erin is the kind of friend everyone would love, but sometimes she seems to push Jacqueline a bit too much. I did really like her though. I did like Lucas, but while I did like them together, I felt like there just was missing something. Sometimes I just wished they stopped kissing and started talking, get to know each other and I missed the banter between them.

To conclude: I really enjoyed Easy, it had that keep-reading-feel. Although I also had a lot of small issues with it. I did like the characters and the setting, but there where just some things that bothered me.

    • Indeed lots of little frustrations for me, but still an enjoyable read. I do like the cover too! And the models really look like how I imagine the characters to look. Or maybe I just based my view of how the characters look on the cover.
