Rolls, Real Estate, and Reunions in Nightmare, Arizona

When a despised landlord is found dead inside Nightmare’s popular bakery, Mama Dalton worries one of her friends is the prime suspect. She takes a cue from Olivia Kendrick’s amateur-sleuth success to dive into the case, bringing Olivia along with her into a world of old grudges, soured relationships, and secret back-alley meetings.

At the same time, an arsonist is at work in Nightmare, threatening the historic buildings that make the former Wild West town iconic. Olivia, Mama, and the supernatural staff at Nightmare Sanctuary Haunted House must team up to keep Nightmare safe by tracking down the guilty party.

While trying to solve the murder and stop an arsonist, Olivia is also busy helping Damien Shackleford piece together the mystery of his long-lost mother. His father would probably help, but Baxter is in no state to talk. Damien’s family is heading toward an unconventional reunion, whether he’s ready for it or not…

Body at the Bakery is book 10 in the Nightmare, Arizona paranormal cozy mystery series. This lighthearted series is about starting over, found family, and solving murders in a quirky old mining town with a secret supernatural community.

My Review

I received a copy from Tantor Audio and voluntarily reviewed it.

Body at the Bakery is the tenth and last book in the Nightmare, Arizona series. I’ve really enjoyed this series and was sad to see it end, but this was a great book to wrap up the series. Body at the Bakery has the perfect blend of feeling like just another book in the series with it’s own plot line and mystery, as well as wrapping up the overarching plot lines and giving every character a moment to shine.

In Body at the Bakery main character Olivia gets involved in another mystery, this time Momma is helping her a lot as the bakery owner were the dead body was found is one of her friends. The mystery was an interesting one and there was a dead body as well as arson and there were multiple suspects. I liked seeing how the mystery played out and it was fun to see Olivia solve this one with help of her friends.

This book wraps up the overarching plot line surrounding Baxter and Lucile. And the plot line about the vanishing girls and Lucy’s burgeoning powers gets wrapped up satisfyingly as well. I liked how every side character had multiple scenes in which they played a role and it was fun to read about them all another time. There are also the locations around town that Olivia visited throughout the course of the series that get another visit in this one. The ending wrapped things up on a high note and was a satisfying ending for both the mystery in this book and then the series as a whole as well.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it end, but this last book in the series did a great job of wrapping up the series. This book has a new mystery and it wraps up the overarching plot lines. I felt this worked really well with making it feel like another book in the series, but also a bit more. I liked reading about the familiar characters and locations around town once more and the ending was well done and left things in a good place. The narrator for this series is great and I really enjoyed listening to the whole series. I can definitely recommend this series if you like paranormal cozy mystery series as it’s one of the best I’ve read.
