MyTBRList

My To-Be Read List is a meme hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life where at the beginning of the month visitors can choose which book I’ll be reading this month. On the first saturday of a month the poll will be up, then on the second saturday of the month I’ll announce the book that won and on the last saturday of the month I’ll post my review of the book.

Gah this month’s poll was so unfair, I never realized how many people love These Broken Stars, sure I heard a lot about it, but the other two books didn’t even stand a chance. So the winner is These Broken Stars, it won with 14 votes (70%), while Lexicon only got 1 vote (5%) and What’s Left of Me got 5 votes (25%).
I actually already started These Broken Stars thursday evening when it was obvious it was going to win. So far I am enjoying it, although I don’t like the characters too much yet.

Blurb:
It’s a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

  1. I find it so hard to get into a story if I don’t like the characters! It can often lead me to a DNF of a book. Glad to see you are still enjoying the story though.

    • From what I’ve heard of the book it’s very character driven, so I am thinking they both change during the story. The story is interested enough to compensate for the characters.

  2. I am curious to see what you think of it as I picked this one up when I seen it on sale cheap, but still not sure about it..lol. Mine had a clear winner this week too..lol. One of my books didn’t even get a vote!

    • Yeah it was a clear winner from the start. I don’t think that happened to me so far that one book didn’t even get a vote. So far I am enjoying it and about 70 pages in, although I hope the characters get more likable later on.

  3. I voted for it based solely on the cover, I know that is really shallow. 🙂 I will be interested in seeing your review, because I think I picked up that in Kindle format when it was on sale. Happy Reading!

    • In my opinions covers are important and I have to admit that the cover certainly is part of the reason I wanted to read it as well. It’s such a pretty cover and am happy I have this one in paperback. That’s nice you got it in a sale for your kindle!

  4. I don’t remember what my vote was, but I remember thinking they all sounded good when I read the blurbs. Sorry the characters aren’t likeable, but maybe they’ll develop and change. I have this one on my TBR pile too.

    • Yes that’s what I am thinking, so far the characters are the thing I like least, although I do understand why the characters act that way. The sci-fi elements are done well and the story is interesting.

    • I had expected this one to win, but not by such a wide margin, the other two didn’t stand a chance. But I am happy this one won as I’ve been wanting to read it for a while now.

  5. Yay! I’m glad TBS won, Lola. I really think you’re going to love it. And then I’ll have to read it sooner than later. 😉 I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. 🙂

    • I hope you’ll have a great weekend as well :). I am also glad this oen won and I can’t wait to read more. I love the sci-fi setting so far and it’s well written.

  6. Aha, yeah, it was kind of a loaded poll 😉 I hadn’t heard of the other books too much so I voted for the one and read and just so happened to like xD I’m glad you are liking it so far, I know I didn’t like the female narrator too much at first but she did grow on me eventually, hope it’s the same for you!

    • I thought the other two books were well known enough to stand a chance, but I underestimated how many peeps have heard of or love These Broken Stars. Ah well I am happy it won :). I didn’t like the female character at first, but she’s growing on me. Glad to hear I am not the only one who didn’t like her at first.

    • I am about halfway through now and I am enjoying it, although I feel like I am waiting till it all comes together. The story is a bit slow at times, but enjoyable enough to keep reading.

    • I am about halfway through now and the characters are growing on me as well. I keep enjoying it so far, although it has more of a survival feel than I expected.

  7. Completely understandable that you’re not feeling the girl yet! I didn’t like her too much in the beginning, too, because she was such a spoilt brat but she grows up in the course of the story and it’s a beauty to behold!

    • Exactly she really acts like a spoilt brat at first and Traver is being a bit too nasty to her in my opinion. I am starting to like them both more now and it’s fun to see the characters change.
