Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

Recently my boyfriend and I visited an Indian Restaurant and gave the drink Mango Lassi a try. It’s a milky mango drink or a milkshake that tastes like mango. It’s delicious. After that I was determined to make my own and quickly found a recipe that I liked. It’s easy to make and it’s a yummy refreshing cold drink, perfect for summer. And it only required 3 ingredients. I made this 2 times now and I love it.
This recipe is based on The Viet Vegan her Mango Lassi Recipe
Mango lassi with straw

Ingredients

  • Mando (fresh or frozen) – 1.5 – 2 heaped cups
  • Greek Yoghurt/ Yoghurt – 166 ml/ 1/3 cup
  • Milk or milk substitution like rice, coconut or soy milk – 250 ml/ 1/2 cup

If you use fresh mango’s you can add some ice cubes. You also need a blender or handblender. You can keep a few pieces of mango aside to use as topping, but that isn’t necessary. This makes about one big glass of mango lassi. You can drink it directly or keep in the fridge for a day or two.
Mango Lassi Ingredients

Method

  1. If using fresh mango’s slice and dice in tiny squares.
  2. Add the mango, yoghurt and milk in a bowl.
  3. With a blender or hand blender, blend it for a few minutes until it’s a thick mixture, but no piece of mango are recognizeable. It is pretty thick, that’s how it’s supposed to be. The bottom most picture shows how a straw will stand upright in it.
  4. If it it too thick for your taste, you can add some milk or yoghurt, if it doesn’t taste enough to mango, add more mango.
  5. Pour into a glass, add a straw and enjoy.

Variation Tips

  • Sweet Mango Lassi. Add a teaspoon honey or sugar.
  • Vary with fruits. I am sure this is blashpemy or something like that, but I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t make this with strawberries, banana’s, berried or pineaple. Or if you like advocado, you can try that.
  • Spiced Mango Lassi. Add some green cardemon powder on top.
  • Salty Mago Lassi. Add a pinch of salt.

What’s your favourite summer drink?

    • Yeah it’s basically a smoothie, but in India they call it Mango Lassi and as that’s how I found the recipe, I decided to keep that name. Smoothies are great to cool down with when it’s warm.

  1. That looks absolutely delicious, Lola! I love making what I call smoothies, and I always use frozen fruits in mine, so that they are like a slush when it’s ready. In the summer months, I mostly buy fresh fruit and freeze portions for use when I want one 🙂 And I always use greek yoghurts in mine as well 🙂 Never tried with mango, so that will be next 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

    • This is a smoothie indeed, I used the indian term for this as that’s how I found the recipe, but yeah it’s just a smoothie with greek yoghurt. I never thought to use frozen fruits or greek yoghurt in a smoothie, but I am hooked now. I am planning to try it out with some different fruit soon.
