Lola’s Kitchen: Apple Crumble Recipe

Posted May 29, 2015 by Lola in Lola's Kitchen / 32 Comments

Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Design.

What’s not to love about apple crumble? I love apples, especially warm ones and I love crumble. My sister used to make this now and then when we had a lot of apples, eventually she had less time to cook and bake, so we lamost never ate it anymore. And we had a lot of apples so I decided to give it a try myself. It’s so easy to make and I don’t get why I didn’t try this earlier. It only costs a few minutes preparation time and it’s so easy, you can’t really mess it up. The 30 minute wait while it’s in the oven is a bit frustrating though. If you love apples, give this recipe a try!
This recipe is based on the apple crumble recipe from Hello Hue.

Ingredients

  • Apples – 2-3
  • Flour – 125 gram/ 1 cup
  • Butter – 113 gram/ 1/2 cup
  • Brown Sugar – 40 gram/ 1/4 cup
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Apple Crumble Ingredients

Method

  1. Pre heat your oven to 200 degrees Celcius/ 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a medium bowl combine the flour, butter and sugar. Add some cinnamon (optional). Kneed the dough with your hands and crumble till well mixed.
  3. Peel the apples and slice and dice them in small pieces.
  4. Lightly grease an oven proof bowl or cover with baking paper.
  5. Next put the apples in the oven proof bowl and add some cinnamon (optional), toss to coat. Then add the crumble on top.
  6. Place in the oven for 30 minutes till the top is golden brown.
  7. After 30 minutes get it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes and then eat. Enjoy!

My favorite way of making this is with two teaspoons cinnamon through the crumble, but no cinnamon through the apples.

Variation Tips

  • Pear and Apple Crumble. Use 1 pear and one apple or two pears and one apple, instead of only apples.
  • Use different fruit. Instead of apples try this recipe, with pears, peaches, blueberries or any other fruit or a combination of different fruits.

    • I love it with or without cinnamon, the combination of warm apples and buttery crumble is so good. And indeed it’s easy to make as well.

    • I love seeing the leaves turn yellow, orange and red in fall. And apples ofcourse, although I eat them all year long they are best around fall.

    • Same here, I love apples. I also like banana’s and have a banana muffin rcipe coming as recipe post later this year, but I mostly make things with apples. I also should do an apple pie recipe once!
I also would love to try this with peaches or other fruit once!

    • I usually don’t have ice cream at home, so I usually just eat it like this. Although now I really want to get some ice cream and add that next time I make this. In Switzerland and Germany they often sell apple strudel with ice cream and vanilla sauce and it’s delicious!

    • I also like apple pie, but this is a bit faster to make, so when I want apple on a short notice I usually make this. I’ll try to do a apple pie recipe post eventually as well as I have a good recipe for that one as well.
I want to try peaches with crumble once in the future!

    • That’s a great idea to add blueberries! Will have to try that once. I halved the amount of sugar compared to the recipe I used for inspiration as that was too sweet to my taste as well. I like it to be somewhat sweet, but not too overwhelming. Before I tried making crumbles myself I thought it would be difficult to make, so I was surprised at how easy it was.

    • lol, I am always a bit afraid to eat the batter because of the raw egg. I actually have a brownie recipe coming up on the blog somewhere in the next few months. And I also like to just bake something from a box sometimes, most box mixes are pretty good.

    • Yeah that 30 minute wait is hardest part of this recipe! I don’t eat a lot of fruits in dessert either and when I am at a restaurant the only pie or cake or dessert with fruit I am going to give a try would be with apples. You can’t go wrong with apples.

  1. I actually haven’t done many apple dishes…although I have one where you bake apples with cinnamon and sugar…and dang its good…takes a while to cook but they are so delicious. I really should try this crumble recipe. I am always looking for new desserts to try. Especially since I am trying to cook and bake more instead of buying things from the store.

    • Oh that dish with apples, cinnamon and sugar sounds good. I just love warm apples! And as long as it’s yummy, it’s worth the time spent making it. I am also trying to make more things from scratch and am often surprised at how easy it is. I hope you give this a try πŸ™‚

  2. Hear, hear! What *is* not to love about apple crumble?!? I will absolutely be preparing this recipe of yours…and very soon! Did I tell you I made your peanut butter chocolate chip cookies? My kids *loved* them!!

    • Thanks for letting me know! I am glad to hear your kids loved the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies! I’ll have to make them again soon, it’s been a while sicne I last made them.
I can eat apple crumble multiple times a week if I am in the mood for it. It’s so good! I hope you give it a try!

    • I’ve never heard of that word for apple crumble before, I only know it as apple crumble. I haven’t tried it with berries, so far only with apple and peaches, which I tried this week. I love blueberries in bakings, so I’ll have to try that!
