The Coffee House Witch & The First Date is book 5 in the Cobblestone Coven series and it follows witch Cassiopeia and her return to her hometown. It’s a cozy fantasy with a sapphic romance in a magical world with talking animals and lots of light-hearted banter.

My Review

I was really excited to get to this next book in this series as I really like it so far and the title promised Faye and Cassie’s first date and I was looking forward to that. This book was so good, Cassie and Faye’s romance deepens in this one and the first date was so fun to read. And Cassie grows closer to Balthazar as well, who has agreed to become her familiar. And Cassie’s running the shop alone for a while as her grandma goes on a vacation.

I really liked seeing where Cassie and Faye’s romance went in this one. I liked seeing them go on their first date and navigate those early stages of dating and being more than best friends now. It was sweet and awkward at times and there are some hints of steam as well. And I thought the author captured those vibes of early romance really well. Their first date was so fun to read about. I liked reading about them together and I also appreciated they are already talking things through with each other. I thought it was good to see them addressing some things from the past as well and talking about that. I look forward to seeing more of them and their romance in future books.

This book had less focus on the magic than some of the other books in the series, but I liked learning a bit more about the bond of witch and familiar and seeing Cassie navigate that with Balthazar. And the ending promises a bit more about the gods who give witches their magic in the next book, so I look forward to that. This series has some nice cozy fantasy vibes and I am enjoying it.

To summarize: I really like this series so far and had a great time reading this one. This book focusses more on the romance. I liked seeing Cassie and Faye navigate the early stages of their relationship now that they’re officially dating. I liked the sweet and slightly awkward scenes and seeing them find their way together and talkign things through. Their first date was fun to read and I also appreciated how they talked about some things from the past. I also liked seeing Cassie and Balthazar’s connection develop now that he agreed to be her familiar and I like how he’s still a grumpy cat. There are some hints of more about the gods and magic in the next book. I already look forward to the next one.
