There’s just something amazing about reading the right book at the right time and that was what happened to me with this book. I was already in the middle of multiple books, but suddenly knew I wanted to read this book and so I did. And I just really loved this book. It was the exact right vibe for my current mood and I really enjoyed reading it.
Fates & Family is the third book in this series. It follows Sable who is the Shopkeeper for a magical shop, she’s trying to free the Cat from his burden of being bound to the shop and she has a little dragon called Indigo she takes care of. There are some ongoing bigger plot lines, but a lot of the book is just daily life cozy scenes about them handling the shop. And I like how even with some of the overarching plot lines, there is still plenty of the shop scenes as well. And then there are all these little hints and scenes that eventually build up toward bigger things and revelations. And this book had a whole bunch of those big revelations at the end. I was so excited to finally get some of those answers and see how Sable handled it all and I can’t wait for the next book to see more of how it all turns out.
Sable is getting a lot more familiar and comfortable with her magic in this one and it was great to see. I also liked seeing how she introduced Indigo to online schooling. I really like all the characters in this book. Indigo has such a clear distinct voice in my mind and her personality really pops. Same with the Cat and Sable, they feel alive and real. And it’s such a joy reading about these characters and seeing what they get up to. I also like seeing more of Betty, the shop, and how they handle things. Betty is such an interesting character and there’s just something so fun about the sentient building trope. And Lorestone was such a fun new character in this one.
I really enjoyed my time reading this book. It’s fun seeing Sable and the shop help people who need it and all the interesting characters they meet along the way. The title of this book is very fitting with more focus on the fates and Sable figuring out her Fate magic as well as the role of family, both the one you’re born into as well as found family. There are some great scenes involving Sable’s family as well as seeing how close Sable is to Indigo, the Cat and Betty, they really have formed a great found family.
To summarize: I loved this book! It was the perfect book for my current reading mood and I had such a great time reading this one. I like how cozy and light-hearted the book feels with a lot of the scenes involving daily life at the magical shop and seeing the characters interact. There are also all these little hints and scenes that slowly add up to some bigger revelations and this book has some big reveals and twists toward the end and I really liked seeing how that all played out and I can’t wait for the next book. I like seeing more of Sable magic in this one as well as seeing her interact with Indigo, the Cat and Betty, the shop. And the introduction of Lorestone was fun too. The title really fits with the focus on the fates and Sable’s fate magic as well as family, with more about Sable family as well as her found family at the shop. This was an awesome read and I can’t wait for the fourth book!
