The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
What happened this week?
This was another tiring week, with being worries about my mom’s sickness as well as things around the house that we had to do. I also still struggled with low energy levels and low mood. Adjusting to the new electric stove made cooking dinner harder and take longer. And it was very warm this week, luckily this house cools down easier than the old one. The afternoons and evening can be extra warm as the sun is on our living room windows during the afternoon, but the bedroom stays a lot cooler in the evenings as it only has morning sun which makes it easier to go to sleep.
This week we focused on finishing up some more things around the house. And we got some good news, the inspection of the old house took place and it’s all good, so that was a relief. So now we can fully focus on the new house, there were lots of small things that still needed to be done and we worked on some of that this week. My mom’s husband also stopped by to drill some holes and help us with some things on Monday. So good progress was made this week. We also signed up for a new general practitioner here and started that whole process and letting the old one know we moved to a new one.
There was a fair nearby and before the official opening they had two low-stimulus hours, so we visited during that time. It was fun to walk around a bit and we ate some poffertjes (small dutch pancakes). It was nice to see the fair and they had the lights and sounds lower or off, so that was nice and it was not as overstimulating. There were quite some parents with kids out and about too.
And an update on my mom. She had to stay in the hospital for a few days, as last weekend she was unable to keep anything inside and was very dehydrated. After a few days in the hospital she was doing better and able to eat and drink again. I talked to her on the phone and she sounded a lot better already. They also did some more test that were planned for this week anyway. They are pretty sure she has ovarian cancer and are now making sure they have found all the places the cancer has spread. Her husband visited Monday to help us with a few more things and he said we would have to be prepared to lose her and she will fight for every month she can get more. So that’s a pretty bleak situation. My mother meanwhile sounded pretty optimistic and is determined to do the treatment and see what they can do. I talked to her on the phone and through messages a few times during the rest of the week. So we’ll have to see how that progresses.

I am so sorry to hear the news regarding your mother – she sounds like a brave, determined lady and with that attitude might have a chance of beating the odds. My remarkable father in law was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer and given three months to live. He managed another five years of a really good quality of life – they don’t always get it right. Take care and glad to hear the inspection of your old property went smoothly and you can now concentrate on making your new place your home. Take carex.
She sure is a brave and determined lady, so I hope that will help her out. That is such a hopeful story to hear about your father in law surviving stage 4 cancer and living another five years of good quality, I would be happy if my mom had the same happen. It was such good news to pass the inspection of the old house.
I am so sorry to hear about your mom, hopefully there are improvements but sending positive thoughts and vibes your way as well. Cancer is so hard, my mom has bouts with bladder cancer and it can be so draining for her and the family, so be sure to still take time for yourself when you need to. Sending love.
Thank you! It really is hard. Sorry to hear your mom struggles with bladder cancer and how draining it is for her and your family.
That is good news that your old apartment check out and you’re settling into the new one. That’s neat that the fair did a few low-stimulus days so you could appreciate it without it wreaking havoc on you.
So tough on you to get such news about your mom. She seems like a brave, good soul the response she has to her diagnosis. Good that you can be there for her and share time, Lola.
I am glad we got the old apartment sorted now and the low-stimulus hours at the fair were nice.
It really is such hard news about my mom and she really is very brave how she handles it. I wish I could do more for her, haven’t spoken to her this week yet as she landed in the hospital again.
I hope your Mom has some good treatments and does well. It’s great the old house is done and you can settle into the new one. I’m a fan of a gas stove so I wouldn’t like that. I had electric the two previous places which was about 8 years though and managed.

I hope my mom’s treatments and surgeries work go well.
The Netherlands has this plan to go completely off gas eventually, so with our old gas stove dying it seemed smart to buy a new electric stove so we’re ready for the future with that. The electric stove definitely takes some getting used to and gas always felt more intuitive to me, but that’s probably also because that’s all I ever used with the exception of a brief time when I was younger and still living at home and my mom had an electric stove. And they have changed since then.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s diagnosis. Hopefully her optimism will help her fight to get through it as long as she can. It’s great though that you can stop worrying about your old place and just concentrate on the new one. I get the stress you’re feeling, I’m feeling similar with my mom’s health, no cancer right now, but she can’t seem to get her diabetes to be back under control or get her joints to stop aching. And then when she gets up and feels bad and can’t do all the things she planned it really gets her down, and I know that doesn’t help her either. Here’s hoping for a good week for all of us!

I hope her optimism and determination will help her and she gets a bit more time. It was so nice to get that news about the old place and now focus on the new place only. I am sorry to hear about your struggles with your mom’s health and her not getting her diabetes back under control, that sounds tough to deal with and like it impacts her quality of life. And it’s so hard to struggle with that feeling of not being able to do what you want to. I hope things will improve for your mom.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s diagnosis. I hope the treatments help give her more time with you all. I’m glad you got the all clear on the old house.
Thanks! I hope her treatments help and give her more time. Was good to get the all clear on the old house.
