My Review

After my latest 2 star read I needed a palate cleanser and I knew a Laura Greenwood book would be perfect for the job. Her books are always so light and fun with sweet and realistic romances between a couple who respects each other and that was exactly what I needed after my latest read. Historical romance isn’t my favorite genre to read, but I still enjoyed this one and the addition of shifters is a fun one. And as I already read book 4 in this series I knew a bit more of what to expect from this series.

The Fox and the Viscount is told in dual point of views by Victoria and Edmund. They were childhood friends and haven’t seen each other in years, but when they meet again they find they still like each other. Victoria finds a suitor who is interested in her, but she can’t find that spark of connection with him that she has with Edmund. She keeps thinking about Edmund instead and looking for him at the balls.

This was a light and fun read. I liked how Edmund and Victoria knew each other from childhood and how they already felt like friends thanks to that, seeing them grow closer again now was great. Although I would’ve liked a few more scenes with just the two of them, but that wasn’t appropriate for the time period so that doesn’t really happen much. I liked the way they interacted with each other and how comfortable they are in each others presence. I liked the sweets themed wager they place and how it becomes a recurring joke about the lemon biscuits and sugar plums.

There’s also a bit about Victoria’s twin and her growing romance, which doesn’t get resolved in this book, but I realized there is a story about her so I am planning to read that as well to know how her romance ends. I liked seeing the two twins interact and how they helped each other out.

I liked the addition of shifters to the historical setting and while I would’ve liked to see more of them shifted I think the scenes that deal with shifter type or shifted are fun. In this book there’s a fox only event they participate in, which was fun.

To summarize: This was a fun read with a sweet romance. I liked Victoria and Edmund and their romance. They were childhood friends and when they meet again they grow closer. Historical romance isn’t a genre I read often and that makes reading the genre a bit harder for me at times. I liked how Victoria and Edmund interacted with each other and how their romance grow. The addition of shifters in this historical romance series is fun and I liked the fox shifters only event, although I would’ve loved to see more scenes like that.
